Futaba Magnum Jr help

Post by ALRC10 »

Old, leaking batteries corroded the terminals terribly on my Futaba Magnum JR. I pulled the body apart and everything looks ok but both wires broke from the terminal where they connect to the small "pill" with the terminals. Anyone have experience with this and am I barking up the wrong tree trying to fix it?

I impulse bought a new Futaba 6PL yesterday but it sure would be nice to take it back if I can fix the ol' Magnum Jr

You can fix it! You cannot kill a Magnum Jr.! Greatest radio ever made. I have on that is hilarious to look at with all it's crazy patchwork! Still works great. I have to keep a piece of cardboard stuffed in the battery compartment due to an errant repair, but it still works great! 8)

As stated above, post a pic and I'm sure there's a fix.

Awesome! Sorry for the delay in pics. I was so frustrated the other day that I did not want to deal with it. I will take the pics this afternoon when I get home from work.
It does seem like simple soldering, however, when i try to strip the wire back to expose the actual wire, it just breaks off. The wire is so tiny. Its no more than 22 or 24 guage. Again, pics coming later.

just disassemble the whole thing and change the wire to something more substantial. should be easy to unsolder off of the main board.

Agreed, I was afraid of doing that cause that board looks menacing but since I already bought the 3PL I'll tackle it now. Thanks.
