Re: New 1/5th Losi Truck
there are 2 losi sites, losi racing (tlracing.com) and losi.com (their toy/prebuilt crap cars/trucks), and this one is on the toy site, so im guessing its like a spec/toy truck, guess they are trying to copy/emulate traxxas business model and start new classes of cars?
my question is where would you run/race this, even 1/8th scale gas tracks dont want baja 5b's running on their tracks cause they beat them up bad.

Re: New 1/5th Losi Truck
Well, all irrational and uncalled-for Losi bashing aside,
lol why do they need a reason other than wanting to cash in on the niche 1/5 scale market?
What I was hoping for when I saw the original link above was a brushless 1/5, maybe with something like this in it. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?I=LNAWSH&P=FB&Q=1
I wonder if a dual 1/8 setup would propel that thing. They said it weighed 30+ pounds.

Re: New 1/5th Losi Truck
wasnt bashing, just a reality, like i think traxxas realized that making race vehicles just appeals to the small race market, and the time and energy invovled in product development probably worth time or effort for them. so they focused on fun cars with some great short course trucks... wise decision for them i think...
i would of loved to get a baja or one of these large vehicles, but living in long island, there is just simply NO place to run this, there are so little fields and abandon lots to run this stuff in without being hassled by the cops. beaches they frown upon running RC cars in most public beaches, although they really dont call the cops cause the cops dont give a crap about something like that. Would of loved to live in arizona or a desert region to run the heck out of this stuff in the middle of nowhere.

*Yawn*
Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah....I'd rather watch grass grow.
Don't get me wrong, it's a neat truck, but c'mon...not exactly a unique vehicle, or game changer.
Great, so it's a cheap copy of a HPI 5t with 4WD.
Yes, I know it's based on an 8th scale buggy.
Hey Losi, wouldn't it have been better to make an 1/8th scale truck to race against Associated's uber expensive 8th scale truck, rather than make a truck that doesn't fit in any class??
So, does this mean that HPI now has to make a 4X4 that no-one can afford just to keep up with the Jones'?

Re: New 1/5th Losi Truck
That's what Losi's done for the past 7/8 yrs now... no new news here, the rtr business allows to fund the race niche which in turn provides image to fuel the rtr business.mikedealer wrote:guess they are trying to copy/emulate traxxas business model and start new classes of cars?
Or you do it traxxas-style with obnoxious marketing claims on top-speed, constant volume shocks (woa!) and <gasp> slipper clutches (WOOOAAAAA!)
What has this world come to, really...

If at least the 22 was doing well

Re: New 1/5th Losi Truck
So far these 1/5th scale trucks and buggies are just pleasure vehicles. Some good places I can think of to run them would be:
Soccer fields
Baseball fields
BMX race tracks
Desert/beach
Large parks
Pretty much any large and open space thats as secluded as possible and pick a time when activity will be at a minimum. I'm not saying that running these things wouldn't be a pain in the neck though because unless you knew of a good place close by it would be.

Well, well! What do we have here?
Read it and weep, naysayers.
Looks like Losi beat HPI to the punch:

Re: New 1/5th Losi Truck
I don't think people are too surprised as it happens all the time. One company releases something first, and then the others follow suit with their versions. If I had disposable income I would of had a Baja 5T by now. I also still wish they went with quarter scale on these things. If I'm going to shell out that kind of money, I want something huge(er)!
