Do any of you run your Optimas with vintage tire/wheels and the chain? I love the look of the Sand Supers and with the new reproductions they are pretty affordable. I'm restoring another Optima runner and I was thinking about keeping more parts vintage. The nearest track is clay, so the spikes should work ok.
What about chain vs. belt? Does anyone run with a chain or is the maintenance just too much easier with a belt?

I am interested in getting my old ultima and turbo optima racers up and running again and would like to know what are the best options for current wheels and tires? I tried to search, but tires and wheels are apparently too generic of...

mm, that one set is for touring cars: too narrow and small diameter. Otherwise, indeed: also buggy wheels that use12mm hexes are plenty available
Ah, that's true Mr. ED. I should mention I'm planning to pick up that set for when I use my on-road...

Are Lazer ZX(-R) tires the same size as Optima tires? So will they fit onto a set of plated Optima wheels?

I'm wondering if the hex on the Optima are the same that are on the standard SCT wheel/tire setups of today? Does anyone had both that they could snap a photo of while on their car if they do fit? I'm wondering how it would look with that setup and...

This might be a weird idea but I remember thinking of this when I was younger and still had my original Optima. Would it be possible or, even feasable for that matter, to convert a MK1 chain drive Optima to a mid mounted motor?

Just a quick question. Has anyone tried to cut down 2.2 tires to fit on 1.6/1.9 wheels? I am assuming there would be issues with balance, coming apart, and sidewall size, but I figured I would ask.

I want to say someone cut down some hole shots from 2.2 to jelly beans and the overall diameter dropped really bad.
The sidewall height means it would be better cutting a pair of rear truck tyres down and narrowing them, so keeping the bigger...

Hey fellas,

I got a quick question. I acquired a set of stock JRX-T orange 5 bolt rims for my brothers JRX-T from eBay. The tires are glued and I was wondering if these particular rims can withstand the acetone bath to get the tires to free up....

Thanks for the replies, I think I feel safer taking a knife and a Dremel to them for clean-up of stuck rubber than chancing the acetone. The tires definitely are not worth saving.

I wanted to know if anyone has tips for putting foam donuts on the stock 3-piece 10T wheels? Can you simply build up layers of foam to fill in the gap between the two halves, then put the donut over this foam?

if you could find the right size of foam, i think you could pull it off. you should try it on some wheels that you don't want. practice makes perfect. you might have to get creative with a tire lathe and a dremel.
