What are the best AE shocks?
What are the best AE shocks?
I am piecing together an old RC10 gold pan. I am not sure what I am going to do with it, but I would like it to have some decent shocks. I have the following. gold shocks bottom load, gold shocks top load, plastic caps, ano. caps. green b2 shocks, the new blue shocks... What are your favorites? is it a combo? retro springs or new springs? o-ring cap seals or the fiber washer things? those air reservoir rubber things under the caps? How about the new packages of factory team springs with all the colors?
Tell me your favorite set-up, why and what it is good for please.
Also I was watching some old vids on youtube it was advising on the stiffness of springs oils etc for jumping and cornering, is there a chart somewhere? like if you nose dive off the jumps do this or that, if you understeer do this or that?
I know the first thing is what am I specifically going to do with this car? I will probably run it on the track sometimes and shelf it the rest of the time, I probably wont race it unless I get an itch. The jumps are fairly big, I am sure I will stay with brushed modifieds, for now I am running NIMH until I fry a couple more packs then LIPO

Re: What are the best AE shocks?
Typically, the later shock the better. So your best bet would actually be the newer V2 shocks with all the bells and whistles
For what you have in stock, the teflon b2 shocks are great. Make sure you have new o-rings, snap rings, and do yourself a favor a buy a set of the newer plastic caps with bleed screws. O-rings rather than plastic washer for sealing. If you can get your hands on some ti-ni shock shafts, buy them too
The blue bodies I have never had in hand, but they look to be on the cheap side.
I've tried VC'ing some B4 shocks, it just didn't work well on the track - emulsion shocks all the way!

Hey, thanks lonestar, I will look up the V2 shocks and see what they are. Are they the ones with the threaded shock bodies? Anyone have experience with the V2s compared to what i have in stock?

yes - v2 shocks. the ones released mid-2010, with threaded bodies and with a completely separated compartment for the orings and guides. no more crappy snap rings that jump off.gjeeper04 wrote:Hey, thanks lonestar, I will look up the V2 shocks and see what they are. I looked these up on Tower's site and have a question: what's the difference between the .89, 1.02 versions of the shocks?

Re: What are the best AE shocks?
.89 and 1.02 are the effective stroke length of the shocks. .89 = front, 1.02 = rear. The shafts are also described in such a way.RC104ever wrote:I looked these up on Tower's site and have a question: what's the difference between the .89, 1.02 versions of the shocks?
