1988 Tamiya Avante (Updated 07-03-11)

Post by nvxwax »

Ok i have finally finished the rebuild of my 88 Avante complete with CRP unit and matching servo. The car was acquired as a newbuilt roller, I had to source a few parts to complete it.

My questions:

#1 What should i do for Paint? Leave it clear, Boxart Blue (I have a decal sheet) or a half and half ?

#2 Anybody know what direction the CRP unit is supposed to face? The way it in the car now, the heat sync hits the body a little, I cant find any good photos of how it was mounted in the boxart car.

Comments welcome

Beautiful! I'd be tempted to go boxart on it.

Thanks Guys, Im not sure what's up with the CRP heatsink being tall, I have seen CRP units with a lower profile black heatsink, I have a P160F unit in my car (Might not be the correct unit for the car?)

I think im going to go with the boxed art blue metallic, Just have to track down some paint.

Got this info from TC, Im not sure what version i have but i do see the gold heatsink in a lot of older pictures. I guess i just need a radio with a lap counter.

P-100F, 100amp, 17T or higher, black heatsink, came with Original Adspec radio, and sold separately also.
P-160F, 160amp, 12T or higher, gold heatsink, came with Adspec Plus radio, Adspec GT-I radio, and sold separately also.
P-80F, 23T or higher, silver heatsink, came with Adspec Sport radio.
CPR-01, 27T sport tuned or higher, flat heatsink, spade connectors for motor, came inside Tamiya XB cars.

The period correct cpr unit is the p-100f for the avante, the p-160f was launched later around the time of the top force so around the early nineties this is so you could use the dynatech 01r and 02h motors that are lower wind motors than the technigold. The p-100f is a smaller unit and therefore doesn't foul the shell on the avante, but still yours does look sweet, nice job.

I really like it!

I'm not the biggest Tamiya fan, but the Avante is definately the best looker :)
