pinion/spur in stock combination
Can someone tell me what is the pinion size supposed to be with the Stealth Tranny? One of my car is overgeard I think... The motor becomes so hot I can barely touch the motor plate and one to the motor pole loose its wire... The tin melts! It's not very fast either.
I think the spur is like 81 theet but what is the pinion supposed to be?
OR
What is a good spur/pinion combo for optimal punch and speed for a basher?
Thanks

That would depend on if its a buggy or a truck, what the actual gear ratio is on the tranny and what motor you are using. On the truck you could use an 87 tooth spur gear which is what they come stock with. The pinion gear could be 19-22teeth, but that again depends on the motor. How many turns is it? Try this web site it might help you find what you are looking for.

Well I'm talking about a buggy. I have no clue the number of turns of the motors. All my motors I got with used cars. Never acually bought one except the one that came with my original RC10.
That page is nice bit it starts at the B2.
I just want to know what was the pinion size provided with the cars equupied with aStealth tranny. That would be a start
It does not say in my book.

Guessing on the gear isn't good if you don't know what the motor is. They all require something different. A hot modified motor could need something as small as a 12-tooth pinion, where a stock motor would want a 27-tooth—depending on the spur and the tire sizes.
How about a quick photo of the motor or at least a description of what you have so we can help you more. A bad guess on gearing could blow up your motor or ESC, and leave you S.O.L.

OK so here are some pictures of what I have right now.
On the car I have a Raceprep "power zone" that's the one that overheats... The pinion is definetely to big...
I also have a bunch of motors I don't know much about...
Reedy Fire Hawk
Dynamite
Pro Parts
A white modified with no sticker
and the orignal stock motor that came with my CE RC10
Also got a Johnson silver can with my son's TL01 clone
Anyone knows these motors and specs?
I have another question. Is is possible in a way or another to figure out the number of turn of a motor with an electric meter? Assuming I can take the armature out as in a modified motor... This is at the edge of my knowledge, I never care too much about the motor I was using in my cars. I'm just bashing....

The Reedy FireHawk is a stock 27 turn motor, gearing it 21/81, with a stealth trans (2.25 final drive ratio) gives you a 8.78 final run out...on a buggy that isnt bad. I shoot for 10~10.1 when racing stock in my RB5 or B4. If your just bashing around, it will get mildly hot. If you use an 18 pinion, it puts you right in the gearing area that I run.
I dont know the other motors, but the bottom one looks like a Mabuchi/Johnson motor...you can gear those pretty high (24-25) they are pretty tame.
