Changing tyres on an vintage RC10L

Post by liam »

Hello All

Ive just been gifted an RC10L which ill be doing a reso job on

Im not sure which version it is...it has a graphite chassis and and gold shock if that helps and is in very good condition!

Anyway how do i go about getting some new rubber on the back of her? Is it like buggys as in you boil the tyre off and keep the rims?

Looking forward to some spped runs! Talking of speed runs i thought there was a vid of Cliff Lett doing 110mph with his? Havent been able to find it yet!

Thanks Alot

Liam

I can't honestly answer this since I simply kept mine the way they were since mine only serves shelf duty, but I hope someone with the knowledge steps up and answers. I'm a bit curious myself in case I decide to improve mine. What are the options these days? And no, I did absolutely no research before this post so sorry if it's an easy answer...

+ I was tired of the stagnancy of the on road forum over the past few days...It needed CPR!

You can remove foam tires from the rims by taking a small jar or tub, putting an inch or two of acetone in there with the tires, then put a lid on it for a few hours to a day- the acetone will soften the glue ( contact cement ) and then the old foam slides right off and you can wash the rims and install new foam donuts-

Thanks Reg. 8)

Liam, if you really want speed runs I'd pick a different car unless you have about 1000 yards/meters of good clean tarmac. Even small amounts of dust require about 50+ meters of throttle feathering just to avoid the inevitable spin-out. It does make it a bit more exciting though!

If you want the best high speed passes on a low budget I would look at a touring car. 4 wheel drive and rubber tires work about anywhere.

Thanks for the replys will get started on the rebuild soon....ill start a rebuild thread to get some advice to do it properly!

I was thinking of hanging out of a sunroof on the motorway to do a speed run.

Also near my dads house is this track (Crystal Palace)

Are these cars impossable to control then? I dont really want to run a 7.5 in it but thats the mildest ive got!
