My Dads RC-10

Post by soniccj5 »

Growing up my dad and I were always close. He taught me everything and answered every question I asked, and I asked a lot of questions. When my parents bought me a Frog for Christmas, my dad spent all day at the kitchen table assembling it. That will be a Christmas I always remember.

My dad bought a fast attack vehicle shortly after and we started racing at a parking lot in Framingham. Eventually the RC-10s were starting to dominate. One year we went to the mall and my Dad bought us each an RC-10. We built them on my parents screen porch on a nice summer afternoon. We raced all around Massachusetts for years to come, spending late nights at roller skating rinks, and long Sundays together racing.

On January 8,2011 I lost my Dad due to complications after heart surgery. He gave me his R/C collection over a year ago, but I never went to get them. I had a feeling he still enjoyed having them home with him, even though they were just sitting on the shelf in our R/C Room that we spent hours in together.

I brought all my Dads R/C cars to my house a couple months ago, and at first wanted to leave them untouched. But I have decided to clean them up, starting with his RC-10.

I can't think of a better way to preserve a memory of him. :)

I lost my Dad March 13 2010. He paid for all of my RC cars when I was a kid and Im sure the parts I needed were more than my allowance..but he never said that. I remember the day he showed up with the Thorp drivetrain for my Blackfoot.

I understand how you feel about the collection. I still have the driver to my Dad's Wild Willy.

Bonus points for the Nerf Bars. I am sure you will take good car of His collection.

Thank you for sharing your story with us.

You have my deepest condolences. Sounds like your dad is an awesome individual. I say is because he still lives on in you. That buggy will make an awesome tribute to him and all of the good times you had.

I'm looking forward to seeing some updated pics of your dad's car, best of luck with the build. Thanks for sharing such a personal story and my condolences on your loss.Probably the most beneficial aspect of the hobby is the memories and the bonds it helps create, especially between fathers and sons.I still remember my dad buying me my first car back in '84.I was bouncing off the walls I was so excited. To this day it's one of the happiest moments of my life.We can all take for granted the precious time we have and it's reading stories like this that remind me why I've come back to RC so many times.I don't know about anyone else but when I get a new kit or some vintage parts come in the mail,I feel nine years old again every time.

Again,thanks for sharing.
