JQP's JRX-2 resto update

Wow, this is really taking me a long time! I guess with a home remodeling project, work, trying to manage a dirt oval racing series, and trying to actually get to the 1:1 races as much as possible, this is taking a bit of a backseat, but I thought I'd post some pics.

Everything is brand new on this except for the transmission internal gears (including a Robinson top shaft w/ the screw to hold the spur gear on, which are the only remnants from my original car back in 1989-1990), and those trick Robinson trailing link mounts.

I do have all of the shocks (w/ the 1st generation cartridges) and the rest of the drive line parts....just need to find some time to put it all together. The biggest things I'm still in need of are original front wheels & all 4 tires.

I fanatically worked my gear cover over last night, carefully trimming it out, then spending 45 minutes going over it with three different plastic polishing compounds (it was new, but kit original and had 20 years of scratches and life to show for it). It looks brand freakin' new but it would have been a whole lot easier to find a new one. LOL.

Looks great, Wally. I still think that early Losis will be the cars and parts to have in the next year or two.

As soon as I get a chance, I'll post photos of mine, too. It's been a really fun re-wind through time just working on this car.

ok, posted this earlier, but repeating warnings is what you do getting older I suppose:

make sure to upport your chassis while on the shelf.
The front losis arms have an annoying tendancy to creep under the weight.

Sweet start. Yeah, the Jrx2 arms were about as stiff as a sponge. I think they were the first thing I replaced back in the day. It's a good idea to put all your shelfers up on something, so they don't rest on their tires. It can cause flat spots on the tires, and make them crack sooner too.

I wish you luck finding new orange 5-spoke wheels, they are hard to come by. The original A-7200 front and A-7300 rear tires do pop up on Ebay from time to time.

When I was looking through my storage unit, I did find some red five spokes and they did not have the correct rear tires. Let me know if those interest you. The rear 7300s are not easy to find.

I feel pretty lucky, this winter I was able to score a NIB set of front and rear orange wheels with NIB tires for cheap, less than $20 if I remember correctly. I guess nobody else was looking at the time.

I'd even settle for some gently used ones.

Thanks. Just bid on it, but I hate to have to buy all the other junk too!

Right back to ebay I guess!

I usually search on "JRX" so I wouldn't have picked that up.
