3speed YJ Wrangler Project

Post by nvxwax »

Here is my 3speed YJ project, Im building this from parts laying around, Im trying to keep the cost down as much as possible. The frame and suspension are from a F350 3speed. The body is from a CC01 wrangler kit, The frame has be shortened, Front steering has been reversed, all new suspension mounting points.

Im not sure about the 3speed trans, Its very bulky and not very scale looking from the bottom (Its not on the truck at the moment, Im debating on using another trans and transfer case.

Comments welcome

That's going to look great, what alternative trans are you considering, a vintage 3speed box, single speed or something else?

Im not to sure, im going to do my best to install the newer 3speed, I have never actually ran a 3speed trans, does anybody know if i can run the motor in reverse through a 3speed and it still operate? there is no way to get this huge trans under the front of the body, but i can flip it and it looks ok., if i cant get it to work right im thinking of going with a RC4WD Killer Transfer Case and some type of 2 speed from them.

I've seen landrover defender 90 bodied F350's running the chassis in reverse so the transmission sits in the passenger compartment, the transmissions have three speeds forward and reverse, I'll try and dig a link out for you.

I can't find the one I was looking for (it had a build thread) but here is another:-

I'm almost sure all they do is rig the steering up to the rear, sort the body mounting and run them in reverse.

Thanks Synergy. Looks like it should not be a problem to flip the trans, Im going to lift the 3speed up about a half inch in the pics above, this will give me a little more clearance under the truck, it will also hide some of that huge trans lol, it looks like the rear suspension will bind with the trans but it just clears it lol.

You can definitely flip the transmission. I did it in my Hilux with no problems. I'll see if I can dig up some pics for you tonight.

The Jeep is looking good. I'd probably put some taller tires on it.

That would be great, I plan on changing the tires at some point, The tires on it are just over 3.5" diameter, I tested me SCX10 tires on it and they were just a little to big at just over 4", Im thinking of getting some Dirt Grabber tires from rc4wd, they measure 3.8.
