associated hard anodized shock color variation
Hey guys, just picked up some hard anodized shocks on ebay.....they are .89" front shocks, plastic cap.....they are really gray, and not the olive-ish color that most hard anodized shocks are....
did associated change the hard anodizing around the time of the B2/B3? these said B2 on the label, and interestingly, came with the collar screws, but no collars, just a spring retainer, the little thin black ring used in conjunction with the preload clips.

Re: associated hard anodized shock color variation
Take them out, and put some olive oil on them and they should turn the "correct" color. They seem to have an ashy finish after the H/A process, but a little oil absorbtion and that gray color
turns to the olive.
turns to the olive.

Re: associated hard anodized shock color variation
ah...interesting....I was thinking that if they got oil on them, they would change slightly.....good to know!!
I guess I'm showing the fact that I've never pulled a brand new set out a pack before.....![Embarassed ](./images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)

Re: associated hard anodized shock color variation
You know I was reading Reggies reply and was thinking no way. To acheive the olive color, soak the shock bodies in olive oil??? Whatever!
I could just hear Reggie laughing at all the people soaking thier shock bodies in olive oil. Well I had a set that was grey and sure enough, the olive oil worked.
I guess I never opened a pack of brand new AE shocks either. I never had this problem when I was building new Losi's![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

Re: associated hard anodized shock color variation
There has been some variation through the years on the color. I have built kits that the rears or the fronts do have a noticeable shade difference. Even from side to side.

New AE shock bodies, notice the stained and difference in the finish.
Cleaned up well after the Olive Oil.
