A Turbo Optima, finally..

Post by Bimdapogs »

I've been wanting to get a Turbo Optima for so long and found this one on ebay. Well, it's a Salute but as we know it's a Turbo Optima with a different body. The spaceship body is not really for me, so I'm going to be getting a Turbo Optima body for it. Fingers crossed that it's still in good condition. Except for the rear arms, it doesn't look to have been run very hard or abused. Although he said it has a chain drive, I kinda hope it has a belt drive conversion in it (I can't see the chain under the cover). Maybe the chain is missing? We shall see!

Not the best deal at $120, but I thought that's about fair price for these, don't you think? Plus there's a bonus! He said
when you want you became a otw-1 special damper stay (carbon) for FREE as bonus

whatever that means.

1st question: Does it use the same rear arms as the Optima Mids? I have spare Mid arms but don't know if they'll fit..

This is my first from this series, so if you see something wrong or missing, please do say so.

That appears to be a pretty nice model actually. The golds don't looked overly scuffed up. You're getting the aluminum undercarriage (you see a lot of these sold without that piece)

A pretty nice find actually.

Plus, I'd consider keeping it as a salute. As rare as a nice Turbo Optima is....how many salutes do you ever see. LOL.

Looks like a nice project there, Bimdapogs! Everything looks like it's there. Sometimes the insides of those chain covers get really scuffed up and might make it hard to see the chain inside. Considering the cost of the belt conversion, I kind of doubt one of these would be converted without the owner knowing it, but hey--you can always hope! Good luck with your build!

you're probably right. i do expect there's a chain in there, but a belt drive would be awesome.

sorry guys, the salute body is just not for me. i may run it 'til it gives up but the ultimate plan is to get a turbo body on it..

eh....get a turbo body for it and keep it like that if you are gonna run it....then just stash the salute body. when it comes time to offload the car(if you do) call it a salute, with a spare optima body....best of both worlds.....

It's chain..  But seriously, not a bad buy. The seller refunded me $21 for late posting (I didn't ask), and he did threw in a NIP FRP shock tower set (perfect for my Mid), which also sells for at least 20 on the bay. :D

I spent a few hours cleaning it today. Most pars were still in good condition and has not been abused. It needs a new radio plate and a new body to complete.

Radio plate was cut on the right side (MSC servo mount)

Replaced the busted rear arms

Shocks are still very nice

I put in a 360Gold that needs rebuilding..

With Salute body, just until I get a new TO body..

Sweet! Not only that, you actually have the mount for the driver figure. It's the thin post on the upper deck. Those are so hard to find since almost everyone dumped that when running.
