Fibre-Lyte Battery Brace Question

Post by LTO_Dave »

I finally got around to starting another build, but I'm having a problem. I'm trying to put a Fibre-Lyte battery brace on an AE graphite chassis, but it doesn't fit right.

The brace is too long to fit under the rear bulkhead when on the front battery box. And even if it would fit, it's too thick to squeeze between my 1400 Sanyo's and the bulkhead.

It fits fine on top of the bulkhead and actually fits in the big shock tower hole, but doesn't do a good job of holding the battery in place.

What gives?

Ya gotta improvise I think. I have seen where people notch out the rear bulkhead and add some sort of latch.

Do you mind drilling the chassis? Could use the brace as a guide and put a couple holes slightly forward of the stock mounts, take up the slack with some foam. I think as far as fitting into the bulkhead, it's going to be a tight fit no matter what.

one option would be to shorten the brace, and taper the edge into a wedge shape with a file (or whatever) so it will slide into the bulkhead easier.

another option would be to make a brace across the 2 lower shock tower mounts. this way the brace will sit on top of the battery box on the bulkhead, and under the brace. that's how one of mine.

As Scr8p suggests - I filed my strap down at the back, into a wedge shape so that it tucked better between the battery & the bulkhead cup, however as i'm running the front battery 'cup' further forward (so as to fit in the longer LiPo battery) I would imagine that you might need to just cut a bit of the end... as well as chamfering it off.
