Futaba question
Futaba question
Not sure if this is the correct thread...but here goes.
I Have an old FP-3PG Futaba Magnum radio. However I don't have the matching receiver crystal.
It's frequency is 75.710. I was told that I must get a matching RX crystal and couldn't swap them both out with some I already have.

Re: Futaba question
I would agree. As long as the radio/crystals/receivers are compatible, you should be able to swap without problem.

Re: Futaba question
I can't remember what prompted me to go reading through an instruction manual, but I *think* I remember reading that they say not to use a different frequency than what originally came with the radio because the radio and receiver are tuned to that specific frequency. Something about the different frequency crystals requiring fine tuning to get the signal just right or something like that.... Anyhow, I've always changed them out and never had a problem. Even mixing a newer Rx crystla with an older Tx crystal worked fine. Have at it

the manual is available for download on my site if you would like a copy.
3PG Manual.pdf

Re: Futaba question
I always understood that the receiver/transmitter were in fact tuned to that freq. And if you did swap out to stay as close as you can to the original. That being said, most problems occur by not putting the RX in Receiver and TX in Transmitter . And antennas should never be cut , they are a set length as well. One more thing , rechargeable nicads generate 1.2 volts , regular AA ( alkaline or newer ) generate 1.5 volts , a difference of 2.4 volts

Re: Futaba question
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! All of you!
I popped in my crystal from my old magnum sport into the 'module'. 75.560 I believe it is. And Presto. Nice radio. Actually I found it with a B2(barely used, practically new) and a Mega2 charger at a thrift store for $20.
Works great.

Re: Futaba question
Well.....funny thing....it has the battery pack, but I had no way of charging it. So I got a #270-407 AA holder from Radio Shack and popped in my nicads, including the ones out of my camera.
I still need to figure out how to 'tune' my Novak racer esc to this radio. The steering adjustments are awesome.
