Re: Bud Bartos's 1/12th Parma Euro Panther / 1984 Worlds Champ
bud, first off let me say i've been a big fan/purchaser of your products. and by far you're in my group of racers that are the coolest to talk to. i appreciate you signing on. i can't wait to hear some of your stories and/or speed secrets from your past. also, thanks for having an easy handle to recognize you by. it's not like this other guy, that i don't want to mention (mr. kent clausen). sorry kent, i had to get that off my chest.
your parma 12 scale racer is an awesome ride. i know we talked about it already, i want to ask you about your coin enhanced pinion. they're some people that are left in the dark, that have no idea on how it worked. how did the flywheel/pinion help you out? and, did you consider it "cheating"?
if anyone really thinks about it, i don't see it cheating. just a mod that helped the motor stay in it's "sweet" spot. no horsepower was being added.

I recently just bought a couple of BRP bi-level rear wings too. I cant wait to get them!

Re: Bud Bartos's 1/12th Parma Euro Panther / 1984 Worlds Champ
Thanks Guy's ! 25 Years and it seems like yesterday. Just don't ask Me what I did yesterday
The pinion was a key part on the track the worlds was held on. It had lots of high speed tight turns so the flywheel helped the car roll thru the turns faster. No I don't think of it as cheating there were no rules that said You could not do it. Back then Parma sold alum pinion gears and of course I had to use them. Most all were running steel so We did the flywheel it meet the weight and add alittle more to our alum gears. Mike reedy always made the reedy drivers run steel gears !! Note those are 32 pitch gears also
I did sell this car to a great collector of vintage rides this week !!!!
I also ran across some old things when I was looking for pictures so I will try to post as I find time.
Also Kent was TQ in the stock class at the 84 worlds. I will add some things that I found on the 1982 worlds later in that thread. Like a picture of rain in Ca in Aug ?????

Hey Bud, good to see you on here. I posted a bunch of articles from the 82 Worlds in the Scans Archive section, check em out. Your 84 car looks great, more modern looking than a 12i. Lav and I had a heck of time fitting the Danish coins on our pinion gears because of the old nylon motor mount that we used at that time was a lot closer to the wheel than your car.

I don't beleive there was. With trailing sub axle steering blocks You get a slight amount of caster We ran no chamber back then.
