i guess i'm the latest "new guy"

Post by kaiser »

hey all. my name is pete and i'm a vintage rc junkie.
i used to race rc10's (as well as a jrx2 and jrxt, even a blackfoot before stadium trucks came out) at a & d's fastracks in brewster ny back in the late 80's early 90's with my dad.
i got out of rc all together in the mid 90's, now i'm married with a baby who's about to turn 1.
an impulse ebay purchase sucked me back in a few years back. (tamiya df01 4wd dirt thrasher)
i had told myself that i would only collect tamiya's, that was until recently when i got a large box of parts for free.

in the box was enough parts, minus chassis, to build a bunch of cars. low and behold i saw the white parts i loved as a kid.
almost a complete gold pan, minus the pan of course.

so know i'm on the hunt to build up a few ten's like i raced when i was a kid.

my two personal favorites (and what i want to recreate) were a houge graphite chassis w/trailing arms, stealth and worlds front end. i sold mine to buy a xx just before i got out or rc. i kick myself for that one!
the other one was what i ran on the dirt oval, wedge body, graphite, mip trans and a jg lowering kit.

and of course i'll need a goldpan!

i found this site while searching for vintage assiciated stuff, great job on the site guys!

if things go as planned i may just have to enter the vintage race in waterbury ct this year.

Welcome to the forum!

Your best bet for finding a nice gold pan now is eBay! Later when you make enough relevant posts you can gain access to the Buy Sell thread.

thanks. i've been looking at all the gold pans on ebay.

i'm going to see a friend later today that has a ton of rc10's that he got from a mutual friend who passed away.

i'm hoping a nice gold pan is in there, i'm pretty sure there is.

Welcome. This is the place for previously R/C-abstinent junkies who have fallen off the wagon and become addicted to R/C again...

It can get expensive, if you're not careful.

well, i didn't make out as well as i thought i would.

although he told me he had tons of ae goodies, he really didn't.
he had a bunch of 10l pan cars, and a bunch of other pan cars that i didn't recognize, that i'm not interested in. they were all set up for dirt and carpet oval.
he had one black pan rc10 with a worlds front end that he didn't want to part with.

i ended up with a b4 set up for eastern mod dirt oval with a novak brushless and a 3pm fm radio, i'll put it back to buggy status.
i also got a like new tamiya ff02 and a traxxas spirit. i'll most likely give/sell off the spirit, it's an old design, alot like the old traxxas cat.

while i really wanted older rc10 stuff i'm pretty psyched about the b4, i wanted a modern buggy anyway.

Welcome,

I raced around the same time frame as you and also quit 92ish. Last year about this time, I bought a Traxxas Slash because the market was going nuts. My plan was to buy the truck and get a decent Lipo battery and race until the truck broke. I raced it one time then bought a 10T, Yokomo MR4-BC, and an RC10L. Next thing I knew I was buying a beat up gold pan and another RC10 Team Car. I then found new Worlds Car i couldn't live without as well.

I have since bought a 2.4ghz radio, brushless/motor esc combo and all kinds of other stuff. In addition to that I started using my mini lathe and mill to make stuff for myself and the guys here.

Be careful, or you will end up like the rest of us, too many cars and not enough time

Thanks for sharing your story and we are looking forward to seeing your collection.

i'm already there bigjeep!

i'm up to 10 cars, lipo/brushless all that jazz lol.

i'm still mostly vintage though, the only newer cars i have are the b4 i just scored, a tamiya dt02 (what a waste of time) and a tamiya m03 and ff02.
the rest are tamiya's from when i was a kid.

i'm trying to stay away from racing though, mainly because i don't have time. i build and race volkswagens and last year the wife and i started a family.

yeah, its definitely a sickness, hahhah....

let's see....I had a bunch of cars when I stopped running, about the same time, early 90's. I went back to the parents and dug out a bunch of stuff out of the basement so it wouldn't get totally ruined. that was....8 cars. Now, I have 14....almost doubled. ugh....and no signs of stopping, as I have a 15th car in the works, and I may build a grasshopper or lunchbox for my little boy to bash around (he'll be 3, gotta get him used to the controls first!). Be an even 16 probably before you know it....

and I thought I had a problem. looking around at some of these collections makes me feel like I'm not so bad....

Hey Kaiser,

You are right, a sickness it is. I just joind the forum and from that alone I want to get more vintage buggies. I have a Optima, Advance and Boxer all NIB and a NIB RC10 on its way as well as a RC10 runner. I definitely want to expand on the vintage RC10'.

This does not even include all the vintage airplane stuff I collect.

Welcome to the board. I think you will find this place to be the best forum bord that you have been to. Least it is in my opinion. Make sure you read the rules though the moderators will frown if they are broken.

Have fun, enjoy, and good luck on getting your first buggy.
You run me in the grass imma run you in the wall, drive like a racer not a flippin idiot

THIS PLACE ROCKS!!!!

I am also a recovering RC addict that has recently picked up a RC10.

1st step:
I recognize I have a problem.... but I don't care.

Update 2/2/2011
I now have a complete tricked out XXXT-MF2 and a Mildly modded Stampede electric truck.... It's getting worse... i am checking ebay regularly and stopping at Hobby shops, not on the way home.
