Long term Optima Mid restoration

Post by Snake Plissken »

just finished a long term Optima Mid project. I received some used Mid parts in a local lot find (enough to complete about 70% of the car) five years ago and was determined to keep this project on low budget, hence the long time it took me to complete. At some point the only parts missing were the rear diff and a front bellcrank stay which I had trouble locating at a reasonable price, finally I found a cheap used lwb chassis (again, locally) that had the required parts.
This was originally a standard Optima Mid which I slightly upgraded with a rear ball diff, Thorp center gear and a counter sunk chassis. I got the Andy's body used from ebay mainly due to the included under tray (when purchased, Marwan and TBG Optima Mid bodies with under tray were not yet available), I didn't like its look at first but it grew on me, although I still prefer the original body looks.
It will be raced at the local vintage meetings.

I like the originality of the body, but should you switch it out; go for a long wheelbase model.

Looks great! I agree that I'd prefer an Optima body on it though. But it's yours, do what you like with it. I assume the glue is to keep all the crap from racing out of the drive train and belt?

Thats actually thread lock -the instructions require the use of it in order to completely seal the drive train, I guess I slightly overdid it...
