Yz10/870c shock question

Post by Charlie don't surf »

Can anyone explain the deal with the differences in the Japanese version 870c and the US yz10 stock shock bodies?

I think the main difference was the plastic spring collars and the plastic spacers used for the mounts, as opposed to alu collars and rubber mounts. I believe the internals and the bodies remained the same.

Although these parts were standardized on the Japanese version of the car later, well at least they were present on my 870c when I originally purchased it.

What about the differences in body color from the "purpleish" yz10, to silver 870?

The bodies on my 870c were of the purple variety.

Mine are silver, and seem to be unmolested. I have heard of updated shocks, in regards to these cars, and I assume it to be the purpleish ones but???

I'm not sure about the colour change but i have just noticed on Svens build that the shocks are slightly different from my 870c shocks in that mine have an internal spring.

I have a feeling that the shock anodizing was incosistent, the same way there was variation in the gold tubs.

I have a few sets, and they all fall somewhere in the middle of silver and purple, more like a light bluish with a purple tinge to them.

Here are some detailed pics of the YZ-10 (870C U.S. Version) shocks and the corresponding parts. They do not have internal springs as they are the second, updated version.
