Quick Q re; Steering Arms for Jrx Pro

Post by DerbyDan »

I need a new set of steering arms for both my Jrx Pro & Jrx2 as they have both split where the ball joint (from the steering servo) threads into them,

Thing is i've seen all these on ebay - can someone confirm that my thinking is correct on each....

Jrx Pro (standard kit, non ballraced)

Jrx Pro (as above but for ballraces)

Jrx2 (for ballraces)

Also what size bearings would fit the ballraced arms? Would they be the same for both black & orange arms?

Thanks in advance

Dan

You are correct on the application for all 3. The bearings size are the same for both pairs of bellcranks. It's the size that used on the early rc10 front wheels...3/16 X 5/16 (don't remember the size). Both the flanged and unflanged version will work.

hope this helps...

before threading in a ballstud, run a tap through there to cut threads into the plastic. the hole seems to be too small, and almoste every one cracks right there. I cracked a brand new ball bearing arm on my last build, (using new ballstuds) I also recomend putting a small washer under the ballstud to take up the portion that is not threaded, this also helps prevent the cracking on the end.

Anthony, that's a very good tip. I use to do this also...

Agree, that's always a good practice for plastic and such parts. But don't overdo it, suggest tapping perhaps half way or so. If you tap the whole way it might not stay tight. At least for a runner.

Thanks for the advice, it was actually my intention to tap the new arms (when they arrive) for the ball joints - are the early Losi ball joints 4/40? I have a hunch that they had a courser thread?

Pre tapping holes is something i've always done since building my first DoubleX - they gave you a special screw for the job in the kit but I was lucky enough to be given a 4-40 tap (something of a rare camodity here in the UK)

yes, the early losi hardware was 4-40. The chassis screws were 8-32 (I've never had to tap the bulkheads) and the wheel nuts were 10-32.
