HPI Blitz Xmas present...

Post by Brandon G »

Got this for Xmas this year! Finally replaced my wore out Slash. I run it in the Mod SC class. Novak GTB w/10.5, Nomadio radio, Futaba Digital BL servo, Proline M3 Bowties. Ran it with 3 SC10's Saturday. Qualified 3rd, finished 2nd in the main. Couldn't be happier with the performance. Right out of the box setup wise. I will be working on it a little to get some additional steering out of it in the tight, low speed areas. For the money it's hard to beat.

Let Mark drive it for a few and he said it felt more stable than the SC10. He also commented that he liked how it jumped better than the SC10.

My old Slash got a recycle. Threw the OE radio in it and gave it to my brother in law for Xmas. A fellow racer buddy did the same as I did with his Blitz/Slash. He let me have his old Slash and the radio out of the Blitz to complete the package, so the nephews have a truck to run with dad too!

It has a lower center of gravity, so high speed turns can be taken faster with no worry of rollover like Slash. Jumps a lot better with less of a sailing effect on larger jumps. Rolls over bumps instead of plowing through them. Diff is sealed allowing you to use any type diff oil for tuning (unlike Slash). The tranny is a simple 3 gear design with metal gears. Much more efficient than the Traxxas. Weight of the truck is much less too. Overall a much more nimble and race worthy chassis right out of the box. Durability is really good too. Probably not as tough as the Slash, but way better than the SC10. (haven't broke anything yet!) It also has adjustable body mounts, so you could get away with just about any CORR type body.

I can't attest to the stock running gear, ESC, motor, servo, etc. since I pulled them out as soon as I got the truck. It does like the BL setup I have in it. 10.5 motor in this truck suits it very well.

I pulled my GTB out after thermalling in an 8 minute race. I put the MMP in there, same gearing and ran over 10 minutes before pulling the truck off the track. Temp'd @ 130 motor & 90 speedo. Not saying the GTB is bad, but something was wrong.

First outing with the truck I put it 5th in grid for the A, in open SCT. I didnt finish the main due to the thermalling, but was running near the top most of the time. The truck handles great. The adjustments you can make without buying any optional parts is fantastic. It comes with different antisquat bars, rear toe bars, smaller spur gear, inline front axle carriers and full set of shock pistons all around. Those are in the spare parts bag....

I did have a leaky diff, quick o ring swap and I have been fine. I swapped the shock pistons front/rear, giving the front more pack and softening up the rear. Did a bunch of "recommended" changes by reading up on other forums, got to the track and started un-doing them one by one until the truck felt really good. Ended up only leaving the 4 degree rear toe bar and inline steering on. So 2 changes out of the box and it is perfect for my driving style at our local indoor track. Even the stock tires work amazingly well. I bought Proline Caliber M3s for it, put them on, felt a little squirmy, swapped back to stock tires and it was perfect.

When I open my 2nd truck, I am going to set it up for our "SPEC" short course class, must use only RTR tires, speedo, motor and servo. So I am going to rob my Slash for its electronics. I am not impressed with the kit electronics, but the kit motor seems decent. I will set up the shocks just the same, but I will leave the rest of the box set up on there, since I never tried my truck straight out of the box.

I havent been this happy with how a car performs out of the box in quite a while. I was impressed with my Slash way back...but I was racing against other Slashes, now with more trucks on the market, I feel confident I can drop this one on the track and do well.

If I was going to buy another sc truck, this would be the one, just on looks alone. Def the best looking one of the bunch, glad to hear it's a capable runner as well.

JK, what have you done to get more steering out of it? Did the inline axles help in that area? I've heard that the servo saver is set way loose from the factory.

I went to inline immediately. I dont know how the trailing work...

I got most my steering by servo saver tightening and playing with chassis rake...I love the fact you have to "dial out" rear traction. It is so hard to find, I would much rather tune it out than attempt to tune it in...

I just went through that link you sent me. Great info. Looks like most are going to the forward hole in the steering rack to further improve steering.

I knew coming to work today wouldn't be a total waste of time...

I did that change, made the steering too aggressive for me. That was the first thing I "un-did". I like just a hair of push, if I need to rotate more, tap the brakes.

That link is one of the best resources I have found...and who better than the designer of the truck to walk you through it!

I have all of the popular trucks Slash,Sc10,Blitz and two Losi XXX-T Hybrid SCT's.
As far as out of the box fun the Blitz is a really good truck.
