modded Hornet from a broken trash car
The other day I was bored so I pull out my Hornet parts box and built this.I started with a chassis with a broken front tower and fabed this alloy one to accept longer shocks,I left it rough till I see how it works,it gives the shocks a negative angle but the front feels good.I had a rear sway bar set up?I think its JG so i fitted that allong with super hornet shock mounts off the tranny so I now have Ultima oil shocks all round.Im hoping it will be an improvement over the standard car. Will post updated pics as I go.

Re: modded Hornet from a broken trash car
You-G or Parma (re-badged) are who "made" the blue alloy parts/roll bar. They did alot of parts for the Hornet,Grasshopper, frog etc etc.
Be warned though - even though there will be a slight improvement, it sure is not going to easy to drive. I highly recommend removing the sway bar - it looks cool - however the rear end is poor enough without restricting it more. Good project there, hopefully I will get around to finishing mine one day too. Maybe we could run it them vintage events?
Dont take it as a criticism at all - I have one built up from parts like this too - as a "hail the hop ups" car...man they did some crazy stuff back then.
Cheers

Re: modded Hornet from a broken trash car
Thanks Darryn.Im allways up for criticism especially the contructive type. Thanks for the tips.It would be great to see some hornets on the track.Ill be racing this one at the next Castle Hill vintage meet.I finished the car and test drove it in the front garden and really didnt notice an improvement, had massive amount of turn in and was very bouncy.I am going to widen the front track with super hornet parts and try that.Im taking it out to Boondal for a run tomorow as it is so Im hoping Ill notice an improvement on a proper track.I like it and think it turned out quite well, especially with the alloy wheel covers plus I have allways wanted to do one in silver.

Re: modded Hornet from a broken trash car
Hey mate - definately was not meant to be a criticism at all!! Just saying what I had experikenced back in the day.
If I thought they were that bad - I wouldnt have 3 new built, 3 NIB and several others in various states of repair! The Hornet was awesome for what it was - an introduction to our hobby for many thousanbds of enthusiasts.
Not alot can be done for the fornt end - the reason the cars have such savage steering is because of the super narrow track! (you have already noticed that). We used to get the CRP "truck" front axles and run a spacer between the wheel and the inner bearing to get more trackwidth. It didnt transform the car - but made it a little easier to drive. Yuo will never get rid of the bounce - just something you get with a live axle rear end.
Still love it!!
Cheers
