Plastic bushings:1, Aluminum axles:0
Picked up a junior-2 to restore. It was built with the stock plastic bushings on the axles. The wheels wobbled so much I thought one of the bushings may have been missing, but this is what I found when I took it apart.
I've never seen an axle worn that bad.

It really makes me wonder why any manufacturer would not include bearings in their kits, sure it makes it cheaper but perfomance and longevity outway the extra cost.

OMG..........I can imagine if this axle combines with the bushings..........the wheel will become "shake shake shake spheres"........

I had some frog spindles that looked the same back in the day. Bearings were too expensive for me.

Re: Plastic bushings:1, Aluminum axles:0
yeah, that's the thing....back in the day, bearings were $$$$. with places like boca and avid offering nicely priced parts, its much more affordable now. 4 regular plain bearings would be easy $20.00 back then. almost a quarter of say, a grasshopper kit.
Re: Plastic bushings:1, Aluminum axles:0
i never thought of it like 1/4 of a kit but yeah lol. now i just buy a new bearing for a buck but bitd i would do all i could to save a bad bearing.
