pro touring build and dual sport questions

Post by 87fierogt »

hey guys im starting this build on monday when i can get my hands on the tubing. it will be a full tube chassis protouring or prostreet car/truck and id like your guys opionion on it. after seeing the tube chassis buggy it finally gave me the push i needed to do a project ive been wanting to do since i was little. i will be useing a tub chassis rc10gt as a guide to cut a floor for this out of carbon fiber to mount a stealth trans, servos, etc. i would like to use a clod buster chevy body or else a revell 1/8th scale 32 ford body. if i do the clod body i wanna do prostreet super skinny tires on the front with some real wide meats tucked in the back or else real wide meats all around for a pro touring style.

my question is if i get dual sport arms, and shock towers can i use the rest of the rc10gt suspension such as mounts, bearing carriers chubs stuff like that?

it will be powered most likly with the 1.5hp 43000rpm fantom i have but i also have a bunch of high end motors around that some are on ebay but i have the choice of big blocks smallblocks etc so its hard to choose. thats why im asking opinions as you guys will kinda guide this build to what you wanna see :D

im 95% sure ill use aluminum because its lighter and the price diffrence isnt much with my dads supplyer. i could go with stainless steel but i kinda wanna do a custom paint or powdercoat job. but it could always look bad ass all polished

so tell me what you think!

is this gonna be a runner? if so go the steel route...one hard hit and your work will be all bent outta shape. Something tells me it wouldn't take much for you to polish up some stainless cage til it gleams  . Powdercoating carbon steel would also take less maintenance in the long run. If its just gonna be a 'light sunday driver' aluminum will work good for you. Good luck with your project 87fgt.

oh its gonna get beat on, on a regular basis :D but i also would like it to look nice as id like to use it to show off my work and possibly use it as a prototype. i want to make this just like the fullsize protouring or prostreet cars im thinking it would be pretty cool with a revell 1/8th scale 32 ford body but i wouldnt mind a clod chevy body but i want the tires tucked underneath and am leaning toward useing 2.2 tires since touring car tires arent big enough or wide enough although id considered useing 6mm offset wheels all around. i might set it up with 4wd but i think 2wd would be super fun with a crazy powerful motor. i have a few motors to choose from as i have 1 or more of each of these

wasp .21 tmaxx motor
picco p2 tmaxx motor
fanton .12
vega .28
sirio tx18
peak diablo .15
associated .21 and im sure i missed one but i have everything on ebay now and the cash that comes out of that will fund this project so i guess it depends whats left when they sell although i have 2 or 3 of each.

i kinda wanna take dual sport suspension on a tube frame chassis with a carbon fiber floor useing an rc10gt tub as a templete i think running ds stuff will allow me to tuck the tires on the clod body. but id love to keep hearing ideas
