RC10GT Rebuilds

I don't get to mess around with trucks all that often. But awhile back I was asked if I'd be interested in restoring 3-4 GT's. So the stuff was sent my way and we were off.

One was a partially assembled, later, all black GT.

The others were just bags of parts as well. Here's a shot of the plastics laid out so I could get an idea of what was there and what was missing.

The all black one went fairly quick since everything was new, and the only stuff that needed to be cleaned up were the front end parts that had already been assembled.

I then moved on to the mid run GT with the black arms. Parts wise, it was the nicest one of the restos. Replaced a few parts with new ones but not many. Finished it up this morning.

Now I'll pack these 2 up and send them back, then move on to the last 2.

And both ahead of my proven track record

I could do a similar post about Nitro 10 trucks, but it would cost me more angst because
1. I'd see how many I still had to put together,
2. The missus would see how many I have that I'm not doing anything with,
3. I'd have to pack them all away again, as who plays with (or works on) nitro?
4. It would give RJ some bad ideas....

My TamiyaClub showroom has details of at least NINE incomplete Nitro 10 truck projects...... and that's just the trucks!!!

I'm watching the GT rebuilds here in solidarity, if only for the fact that I like 2wd nitro stadium trucks.....

Yeah, where is the love for the trucks? It's a ghost town in the RC10T section most of the time. :(

Great pictures Scr8p. I love the one showing the layout of parts for all 3 trucks. That must have taken awhile to setup. Great work.

It looks like build #4 will now become an E-gt conversion, and I will race it in the stadium truck class at the Vonats in Sept. before sending it back. There won't be many pics of this build until it's finished, but the other night I got started on a sort of Dynotech inspired motor plate to use as a template to be cut out of aluminum. It will receive some tweaks first.... like the length for example. I went a little long.

September will be here before you know it, so I'm gonna have to really focus on getting this done. And hopefully get some testing in before the race too.

Thread update!

The E-gt is now done, just in time for the Vonats. This was a collaboration between Jason Ruona and myself... coming up with a plan for leftover parts after a string of GT restorations. Here's a little rundown:

Chassis reano'd blue
JC Hi-Flow T5m body (modern twist on an old school Scott Hughes paint job)
JC One off motor plate
JC cf front tower
JC prototype cf rear tower
JC turnbuckles
JC 2.2 Octagaon truck tires (due out next month I believe)
Milled shock bodies (to remove plier marks)
Reedy 17.5 Spec Plus motor
Reedy 510R esc
Reedy RT 1508 servo
AE B6 ball cups and hardware
B4 top shaft and slipper
Rere Worlds bellcrank
Shortened rear bumper
Custom front bumper
Custom battery hold down
Extended front body mounts
