I sent Rick Hohwart a message on FB yesterday or the day before. He confirmed he did not race a Stealth car in '89.

Another reason for getting in touch with him is I had a question about this green Stealth car. He looks to have been pitting with Rick so I thought he may know. He said he wasn't certain, but thinks it could be Carlos Gonzales..... and he is on the list of potential Stealth racers Curtis posted for the 91 race. Jirka posted a body off shot of this car a few pages back and you can see some of the body in it.

Here's a nother question for you:
What you you make of the slipper/spur on tis pic of Masami's car at the '89 worlds.
It looks like a Robinson spur gear, but what is the dark area? Was there a prototype slipper with the spur squeezed between the slipper hubs?
It looks like Masami has a gear cover without the black plastic button and as it's the 89 worlds the hydra drive and Visco drives were not yet out.

Hi, I had seen this photo and have been looking for it. The slipper looks somewhat like the MIP SL-100. Baring in mind that not much is really known about the prototype stealth gearbox.

Some magazine reviews have said the following:
1:2 ratio
bellview washers instead of diff spring

I think until verified all race reports and reviews need to be judging as "probably right" but may have errors.

The only other info on the prototype stealth transmission, where some photos posted here By mark Pavidis or maybe Ruffy.

The 89 stealth car was probably rebuilt by associated. Most photos from the race show various differences from those captured by Steve Hustings photo book.:

Motor mount cut diagonally
Yokomo rc10 gear cover with bung removed.
transmission brace cut removing 6 gear holes.
No rear body mount (why would he want one!)
yokomo shock clips
Green label Reedy motor (not the earlier yellow label as seen in book)

Probably more stuff that is too hard to see in the long range photos of the time.

The Mip SL-100 sounds and looks about right! Masami had the MIP sticker on the body.
There are as you say many deviated parts comparing race photos and Associated/Hustings photos and also photos from RCCA article on the '89 car (black spur gear).
Then there's the pics of one of the '89 car taken by Curtis.

I have a few SL-100's and they look nothing like the one Masami is using. I suppose he could have had a prototype. Did anyone ever ask Curtis?

Stuff like those Pit Stop transmissions made R/C fun back in the day. Companies inventing parts to sell to customers lead to some awesome vehicles.

Relevant to the topic at hand... probably not... but how rarely do you see transmissions driven by a lock link chain.

What was the reason for flipping the inner rear hinge pins to the inside? Was the car too wide with the Yokomo wheel mounts and moving the arms in counteracted that? Or were they deliberately changing geometry?

At that time wheel offsets were pretty small. So to increase the suspension length you needed to stretch the arm and get the added length wherever you could. That meant putting the inner mount closer inboard.
