Fast forward to 1300GT's incredible 4WD SRB thread. That was the meanest looking car I have seen in a long time, not to mention the genius custom work he did. I decided to build one of a similar design, and I have been gathering parts.
I found the 3D printed MIP gearboxes on Shapeways, which I want to at least use in front, since I don't think I can live up to 1300GT's craftsmanship in building a front gearbox. I'm not sure if I will go MIP/Tamiya or MIP/MIP in terms of front and rear transmissions, but I'm mocking things up using the 3D MIP parts and the old stock internals, which brings me to the slipper set up.
STRC sells a B4 slipper top shaft for the Slash. As it turns out, the gear on the Traxxas just slides over a pin, and the shaft is 5mm,same as the SRB cars. The middle gear in the SRB trans just needs to be slotted for the pin and the STRC top shaft will work perfectly in the Tamiya transmission.
One thing that should be noted is that the hole in the gear case that the top shaft passes through should be opened up to at least 6.5 mm. Equally important is that a 3/16" dia. spacer should be added before installing the slipper parts so the slipper assembly will not crush the bearings and gear on the top shaft.
Note this is all for fitment. I have no idea how the plastic idler would hold up on the top shaft, so I ordered a brass gear from Ebay. The spool will be replaced by the new Tamiya ball diff, and I ordered more re-re internals to build everything up.
Some day I'll have a complete car to show
