I picked up a schumacher truck shortly after the Top Cat purchase as a parts car. The chassis was in really good condition and it came with the aluminum gearbox. Looking at the auction pictures, I knew it had some problems, but I've seen much...

Nice build, think it was a good decision to go buggy rather than truck.
Before making the decision, I looked at a bunch of truck and buggy pics. While the trucks looked ok, there was something about the buggies that made that option more...
Recent aquisitions to undergo refurb. Pictured as I received them, the cougar looks like it has been well used but looked after, the topcat looks like it has seen a lot less use but is definitely in need of some love.
I have already stripped the...

I picked up a Top Cat last year on ebay and I finally have the time to begin the restoration. Overall, the car was in decent condition and there was minimal wear on most of the plastic parts. Unfortunately, there were some deep scratches...

Wow! How did I miss your 'finished' pictures... I can't believe your pace of progress on this project (puts me to shame  ) & your final result is stunning... especially when you consider the 'before' pics. Your methods for restoring both the...
It's been a while since I posted on here, time to stop being lazy!
I'm mainly a Kyosho fan/restorer/collector but have a huge soft spot for the original CAT. I remember watching an indoor race at Gateshead Stadium when I was a kid and...
I'm clearing out my garage and intend to sell my old schumacher cat which I've had sitting in a box for over 20 years..
I had no idea these cars are quite sought after so I would like it to go to someone who will restore it or use the parts to...

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies in helping identify the car - it does look to be a little bit of a hybrid, then, built on top of an original SWB base. That does explain why certain things matched with a SWB description and others not so - e.g. it...
I'm restoring a cat 2000 and somehow i lost the piece that the o rings go into and the pieces that goes in the wing...would anybody happen to have a set they would want to sell ? thanks

I've got an orange belt by Buds Racing Products. Does anyone know how these are better than the kit item? It feels more plastic and less belt like (?)
Also, looking for some new CAT driveshafts (not one ways) ta.

Sorry for the thread resurrection. Anybody know where I can get hold of one of these orange belts? I already have a pair of the short belts and would like to run a full set in my Bosscat Works that I'm getting ready to rebuild for racing.
This would have to be the longest running r/c project I have undertaken yet. Most people who know me will tell you that from the beginning of my involvement with the vintage off road buggy resurgence around 8 or 9 years ago, I am best known for my...

I've been hunting for the right Topcat for ages and finally found one :D I wasn't really looking for one in great condition as they tend to go for a high price in good condition, plus there's something about the restoration that i really love....

I'm just about to rebuild my Schumacher Cat 98 and was wondering if the shell and undertray from the cat 2000 series will fit.

I can confirm that the alloy roller uses a different layshaft. It has a hole through it so you can lock out the one way with a pin and go full time 4 wheel drive.
I've been a long time fan of the Cougar2 buggy and have built and rebuilt more of these cars than any other. I'm always looking for nice add ons and don't mind modding some parts too.

Can you please tell me if the one I have just bought is a short or long...
Last post
I believe yours is an XLS (based on widening spacers) as the XL is like the SWB with a longer chassis. Nothing wrong with leaving it as an XLS, have fun restoring it and so much easier locating parts than a SWB CAT.
It's a team edition with ball race steering & a slipper.
So it's ready to run.
Going to change the wing mount & add a new body with decals, Thanks Gary .

Is the Chassis differnt to the Top Cat? It seems a little wider at the back maybe to take the battery across the chassis. I couldn't fit the battery up the chassis like the Top Cat. Maybe the bulk head is longer at the front.

One thing that came to my mind is a reversed tranny means that the motor will have to spin in reverse. Shouldn't be a problem with brushless especially with the better brushless set up's that can be programed to run in reverse.

Thanks! I have since removed the white rockers and put it back pretty much to stock. They were hand made and pretty sloppy.
I was trying to change the geometry so I could use a lighter spring. It seemed to have the desired effect.
Finally got most of the parts together so made a start on the build.
Still needs a few parts to finish the build, shocks, bodyshell, undertray & wing.
Can't decide on the shocks Cat SX standard or big bore. I do not have a set of big bore to test...

That's looking fantastic :) Comparing my SX2 big bores against my Procat, i don't see any real issues getting them to fit. You may have to space out the front slightly for clearance, but should be fine.
