This is my RC10 cadillac built about 20 yrs ago and never ran. Body and wing are not the kit body as I messed up the original body cutting it out.

Yes, some magnets are stronger than others. There are dry formed magnets and wet formed magnets (the way they are molded) and the recipes used to make them. The wet magnets are generally stronger and keep their magnetism better.

Springs will also play a small part in that. There were some pretty heavy springs out there.

Beside magnets it´s also the airgap between the armature and the magnets what affects how easy you can spin by hand. And there are big differences for the airgap. I am not a motor collector at all, and have just started holding on to them more and more. I have found that a good ol' 540 fits well into my typical cheap storage boxes that I use for pretty much all my RC small parts storage. You could make a motor flag. A brass rod with a steel square on it. You insert it instead of the rotor and the flag should point to the center of the magnets. The magnets don't just lose magnetism, they lose center too. Would give you a feel for how strong they are. If you were in the UK, you could ...
