I picked up one of the 1/14 versions when Walmart was clearing them out for $45.

I got some wider bearings to take up the play in the axles, added aluminum hexes, and shimmed the diffs.

I've only used it to chase the dog around. But on smoother surfaces, I was pretty impressed with its speed.

I don't know how good or bad the quality is for the Dubro, but a Drill America tap was the same price on Amazon and they are usually ok quality. If you want inexpensive, get a new takeout RTR transmitter and receiver off Ebay. Some can be had for ~$30.

The design of the Fan RC bellcranks copies the Worlds car, shims and all. JConcepts aluminum bellcranks use a 1/4" metal shims instead. A metal shim is easier to deal with but still a pain. If you don't need the buttery smoothness of ball bearings, the bellcranks/servo saver from the DS and GT ...

My kingdom for some real servo tape!!!!! This removes old (and new) servo tape and breaks down many (non CA) adhesives, without attacking plastic or anodizing.
