Re: Tamiya Sand Scorcher - 2010 Reissue
Even lines above the fenders, had to clean up under the curve tape, it bled in spots. https://i.imgur.com/bD2ob7T.jpg https://i.imgur.com/8GfSl90.jpg https://i.imgur.com/8o42Ko7.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0KUFXDz.jpg Uncle Sam is ready to go. https://i.imgur.com/vEmLfL4.jpg Was thinking about going ove...

Re: RC10 DS Classic - Build
...Wonder why they did this? Because they are ugly? They don't issue a front "tag" in my state and I've grown to appreciate how clean the front of our cars look without them. When a front tag holder is provided, I'll remove it from my 1:1 vehicles. Okay, so I understand that your do...

Re: Tamiya Sand Scorcher - 2010 Reissue
The challenge working with lacquer paints is that they dry very fast so you need to lay the paint heavy so it will flow (and avoid orange peel) BUT doing so, you increase the risk that it will bleed under the mask. You're climbing the Mt Everest of RC body painting -- don't sweat the tiny mistakes....

RC10DS - Kit and Build review.
Picked up the kit on Thursday and built it up yesterday night and today. For the most part the kit went together well albeit the manual was not quite right. So as I was building from both the old and new manual I started to make notes and suggestions on the new manual which I have here: https://driv...

Got the LED controller today. X4920DVor2k Hot glue to set the LED's in the buckets. https://i.imgur.com/U1IWH7V.jpg https://i.imgur.com/LFxCGco.jpg https://i.imgur.com/50ffNkG.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xtTVJW1.jpg Will get the wires routed and tacked down, and then see about fitting this body on the DS.

Re: Tamiya Sand Scorcher - 2010 Reissue
To be honest, I've tried correcting my overspray and other paint mistakes before and it always looks worse than if I'd just left it alone. I'm not good at fixing mistakes so I tend to live with them. Anyway, clear gloss is your friend. So far, I've used it for all my hard body projects. Sanding and...

Re: RC10DS - Kit and Build review.
Overall the build was fun. The instructions might not be 100% and the original instructions were far more detailed. Regardless most of the car went together fine. As I stated above my starting setup is hybrid between the old and new kit, the main difference between the setup I started with and what ...

Re: Tamiya Sand Scorcher - 2010 Reissue
Thanks! A Snowman KW would be the perfect sidekick to your Bandit TA. Bob Jacobsen built one a few years ago - I believe the sticker sets are still available. Bobs Snowman KW.jpg Of course, the problem is that they are 1/14 scale. :( To be fair, a 1/10 scale big rig would be rather large and likely...

Re: Tamiya Sand Scorcher - 2010 Reissue
That would be awesome to have both! A little bit of staging could make the difference in scale disappear. You could mount the big rig up on a shelf with the Bandit low and in front to change the perspective, sort of focussing on the Bandit but with Snowman in the background. Found a painting that sh...

Optima Mid Build
Sorry, I'm terrible at taking pics during the build process, I'll try to keep this as updated as I can. Started with a decent runner I've had for years, and have been collecting parts for. My intention is to build a nice little piece of shelf art, save for the occasional run around the carpeted livi...

Re: RC10 DS Classic - Build
With the window decals, the tint wasn't dark enough, too many visible wires with the LED's, and no Bandit and Carrie in there. Went a bit too far again with the PS-31 smoke tint. In the sun you can see through it, but it looks like blacked out limo tint in these pics. https://i.imgur.com/aJl871F.jpg...

Re: RC10 DS Classic - Build
Thanks! The Tamiya TLU-01 controller comes with 5mm LED's, and they are really bright. The LED's being sealed in the reflective buckets, does seem to focus the beams well. I hadn't seen those Tamiya Touring cockpits before, those are pro. If I had a 3D printer, that would be the first thing on the l...

Re: Optima Mid Build
Found the front shock tower had a slight tweak in it, so I picked up some beautiful Yeah Racing carbon fiber pieces. I love the chrome thread woven into the carbon. It matches all the polished aluminum well. I'll straighten and polish the stock shock tower eventually. Also found that if you flip the...

Re: RC10 DS Classic - Build
I had no idea how specific the DS wheels are. Notice the backspace and offset of the stock wheel, compared to standard 26mm and 31mm hex wheels. https://i.imgur.com/TCPpqyc.jpg My foam wheel sets won't work either, as a result. https://i.imgur.com/wTEbogx.jpg The axle is 1/4", not 3/16", s...

Re: RC10 DS Classic - Build
I had no idea how specific the DS wheels are. Notice the backspace and offset of the stock wheel, compared to standard 26mm and 31mm hex wheels. I'll have to glue and run these stock wheels and tires, no other choice. I see a lot of choices ... but the easiest would be high offset drift wheels. 9mm...
