Re: 2016 optima transmission gears fit original

For the record, I should also add the reason why I even consider this.. it seems quite difficult to obtain gearbox parts for the Ultima, a lot more difficult than I would have imagined. I can't find one single W0110 (the Kyosho 0.6 mod spur optional spur gear) and at best a few overpriced 32 pitch o...

Re: 2016 optima transmission gears fit original

I'm considering setting up an Ultima Pro for some vintage indoor racing. Still not entirely sure I got the parts compatibility completely, so here goes.. 1) If - hypothetically - I got myself a complete re-re Optima, assembled the whole rear gearbox minus belt/chain, would that gearbox assembly then...

Re: Egress Jamie Booth replica vintage build + race thread

A few videos from the racing weekend. Car & driving is by no means perfect but it was still really fun to drive. Curious to see how it would handle a bigger and faster track.

Re: Egress Jamie Booth replica vintage build + race thread

By now I was a bit eager to go racing for real. It seemed like there actually was a decent chance of putting together a real racing car out of what seemed destined for the shelf. So I decided it was time to retire the old, worn Egress body shell which had served so far and sort out a nice spray can ...

Re: Egress Jamie Booth replica vintage build + race thread

At this point, I felt like the front end should be able to withstand a few hits slightly better. But I still hadn't solved the neverending issues with the outdrives and drive shafts popping out.. After much thought and a bit of trial and error I realized that the only way to avoid extreme "push...

Re: Egress Jamie Booth replica vintage build + race thread

The changes weren't too successful, as can be seen above. By now I was starting to lose my patience a bit. The front end felt rather hopeless - trying to solve one problem just seemed to expose a new one, and it didn't take much force at all to bend one of those precious front arm mounts. I decided ...

Re: Egress Jamie Booth replica vintage build + race thread

Much to my joy, the car came out flying. Felt great and agile straight out of the box, but unfortunately the joy only lasted for a few laps. Soon after that, one of the out drives popped out. Put it back together, just to repeat the process again. Sometimes the right, sometimes the left, but almost ...

Re: Egress Jamie Booth replica vintage build + race thread

Initially, I had spent quite some time on making sure the car had enough steering throw - particularly since I knew I'd be running it on a tight indoor track where you simply need to be able to throw it around a bit. I also realized early on that the standard steering throw wouldn't be enough. But a...

Re: Egress Jamie Booth replica vintage build + race thread

Just in time before the first test run I assembled a full set of new vintage Hicap dampers. Really nice feeling to open up those nicely packaged shocks in bags labelled 1988, 30 years ago, and experience the same ease of assembly and precision as I did back then. http://karlekensvampyrer.se/Egress/0...

Re: Egress Jamie Booth replica vintage build + race thread

Except for the above mentioned front suspension mounts, the build as a whole went of pretty smoothly, nothing more complicated than any production car. It also happened to coincide with me being on paternity leave, which gave me plenty of time to think a bit. Analyzing different solutions on issues ...

Re: Egress Jamie Booth replica vintage build + race thread

Basically nothing happened until I visited the Nordic Vintage Challenge #9 race (after years of nagging from the organizer). I had paused all RC for more than 10 years and sort of knew that I would feel the itch to get going again, should I visit that race which is why I avoided it for quite a while...

Egress Jamie Booth replica vintage build + race thread

I was one of the select few who signed up on buying a conversion kit from Full Option (UK) which is run by the very talented David Beeby. The kit was supposed to be a pretty accurate copy of the Egress that Jamie Booth ran in part of the 1990 BRCA 4WD Champhionship. David had access to the actual ca...

Re: The first TRF ewer…

I have both parts to the actual car and the official manual (PDF form). I don't believe Tamiya would have lost it, they seem quite keen on preserving their own history.. Let me check that it's OK if I give you a copy first. Got it from one of the original 211X drivers, and would prefer if he's fine ...

Re: Hi Cap shock prices

The original, vintage Hicaps are definitely getting a bit harder to find. However they do pop up from time to time. I've recently bought both mini's and short's NIP for 70 and 100 euros a pair respectively.

Re: Tamiya TRF 211x

I was just wondering if you had anyway to create a drawing or something for the chassis pieces to be reproduced??? I certainly could (I actually did for the 411X), just haven't seen the need for it on the 211X. I used one new 211-chassis for my build and have another new set unused, plus a third se...
