Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
The rere has a front shock tower that it is not properly drilled, thus you had to run more preload on the shots. And they still don't work properly until you drill correct hole LOL. Don't worry too much about preload until you get the batteries and motor and electronics in it. The weight now versus...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
I'm just waiting for parts and it's going to be a week and a half for most of them and longer for bearings unless I want to pay for shipping....which I don't really. (blame Canada!) More questions while I wait.... Shocks: The original manual says to leave a 6.35mm space between the top collar and th...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
The outdrive bearings do slightly decrease drag, but the much bigger, more important advantage is that they help the outdrive gears mesh letter with the idlers by supporting them. This lowers the chance of an idler stripping and also relieves stress from the internal bearings. Well that makes enoug...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
While I wait for parts (I've talked to local hobby shops; pricing looks good and with their distributor networks already set up, I don't need to handle shipping, brokerage fees, etc. I do need to wait 2 weeks at this point though), explain to me why I need bearings ON the outdrives instead of felt? ...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
Keep in mind you still need electronics and if you don't need new tires now, you will soon. The tires still have ribs and knobs but I bet they're not up to the standards of the guys here. I won't be racing this thing so until they're bald and the car won't turn or move, I'll probably just run with ...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
The washers didn't work well and that's why they got rid of em. You can still buy them on eBay but they are not a part I would use on a runner. Oh, I don't use the large, protruding white nylon o-ring between the cap and body if I install rubber o-rings in the caps? Will I have a problem doing it t...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
I'll just buy the Associated kit and x2 of the Traxxas LXJJ17 kits as you've recommended. My original shocks don't have a cap o-ring, but I can't see how it would be a bad thing to add them. Sounds like that's your suggestion. Here's my updated list -- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v92/Godspeed1...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
I'll read your thread. Thanks. How about, then, I buy x2 Traxxas kits and #5407 from Tower? Is that a good solution? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX2594&P=Z *Edit - you say in the first post that you recommend using the Associated orange o-rings but then later say to USE ...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
Very interesting...and good news. Thank you.85Edinger wrote:I've heard that the new re-release #6613 is better than the old #6614.
Again, interesting and thank you.85Edinger wrote:6617 does come with the pinion.
6621, being an original gear, would probably need de-burring anyway.

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
The #6440 shock rebuild kit is for the newer associated shocks. It will accomplish rebuilding about half of each shock. The Traxxas shock kit I reference has two key parts: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0095p?FVPROFIL=++&FVSEARCH=LXJJ17&search=Go -The two clear washers (next to th...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
Thanks. Picture looks good for quantities but description of included parts doesn't match.
Here's where I'm at so far for parts --
Probably won't get #6605 though*

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
Bah...I'm probably going to order everything. This is like a bottomless pit though. I've now read that #6614 idlers are better (updated, Black) than #6613 (and they better be for triple the price!) And I now don't believe that #6617 comes with the pinion gear but I can find the one I need, #6621, on...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
That link is awesome btw. Did you do that modification where you attach the diff rings to the diff hubs? I don't think I'll go that intense but...wow. So new gears don't have burrs because of modern machining processes and therefore don't need the time/labour of manual debarring? Do you know if #661...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
A couple more questions if you don't mind -- You mentioned "if you (me) need a spur gear"... Well, I'd say I don't, but I didn't know I needed to replace all of these other gears either! Why am I doing this? :| Are the old ones burred from use and the new ones are going to be perfectly mac...

Re: Help Me Rebuild My Original RC10
Wow, I really appreciate the help clarifying everything....and the tip about Avid. Sorry that this has already been asked and answered elsewhere. I'm new to this but not new to forums and I understand the annoyance in the same questions being asked over and over. I'll trim down my list, get the nece...
