Re: ** 2022 Vintage Off-Road Nationals - R/C Excitement Inc., Fitchburg, MA - Sept. 23-25 **

I'll finally be able to come without wife/kids this time, which means I can stay/practice later on Friday and Saturday. Sunday will be a rough drive home, though... You can't have any more practice time - you are already too fast!! Kidding. I am looking forward to the races! Mark is faste...

Re: ** 2022 Vintage Off-Road Nationals - R/C Excitement Inc., Fitchburg, MA - Sept. 23-25 **

Yes the 2wd class is much faster - any evolution of the original short-arm RC10 or the 5-link JRX-2, would be in the 2wd class (with open tire choice, 17.5 brushless, etc.). The plastic chassis caveat is only for "Classics" class, which has evolved mostly into 4wd entry-level (plastic cha...

Re: Kyosho SST transmission diagnosis

IMG_20220124_182825241.jpg No, I don't mean the lengths. I mean the diameter of the section of shaft with teeth on it. Unfortunately I don't have the Rampage shaft to hand as it's with a chap making a motor plate for me to show a comparison, but it is bigger in diameter than the Pro X version. So t...

Re: Optima Mid RERE

Definitely exciting, especially since the Optima Mid has more in common with the Lazer than the Optima. That means this further lowers the barrier to Kyosho for making a re-re Lazer some years down the road. Even if they don't do that, an Optima Mid is still quite competent.

Re: Kyosho SST transmission diagnosis

Okay, got some bits for the gearbox rebuild but I want to check on what you've done with the layshaft. There is a considerable difference in diameter of the toothed section between the standard Rampage Pro layshaft compared to the Pro X version (SST7) It does go in (once spaced correctly as you've ...

Re: Kyosho SST transmission diagnosis

It's almost a direct swap for the layshaft. My post right above yours describes the steps for doing this ;) I'm pretty sure the diff gears have a different number of teeth, as do the output gears. That's why they have a different part number. The reason the layshafts have a different part number is ...

Re: ** 2021 Vintage Off-Road Nationals - R/C Excitement Inc., Fitchburg, MA - Sept. 24-26

The jump sequence on the back was a little easier on Friday when the grip was lower and you can run the chassis higher. As the grip level came up, for me at least, I had to drop the car down and run stiffer springs, especially up front and especially for my 2wd buggy. This gave me a narrow margin f...

Re: Kyosho Inferno 10E build

I used RB5/ZX5 standard bore shocks on mine. You can alternately use RB7/ZX7 big bore shocks, with the appropriate spacers to make them fit.

Re: ** 2021 Vintage Off-Road Nationals - R/C Excitement Inc., Fitchburg, MA - Sept. 24-26

One month to go...I've got a nice roster to bring this year! ;)

I don't know what RCE's policy is on masks, or what it will be in the future, but for anyone traveling there, it would be prudent to bring a few masks just in case they are required.

Re: YZ-10 Pavidis

Very nice example! YZ10s are very sought after, especially the less common ones such as your '95 version. Auction prices vary, but these have fetched upwards of $1,000 USD in good condition.

Re: Kyosho Inferno 10E build

Ahh I finally found your post for the build. Mine is coming along slowly but surely. I plan to run a shorty pack with the motor in the stock position. I'm getting around the fact that the battery will stick out some on the left side by making a bottom "tub" out of carbon plate. Once again...

Re: Kyosho Inferno 10E build

I had that same problem at VONATS when running the gear diffs. I think it was at least partially because the trick I played to seal the diffs with oil required me to use two rather than four screws to attach the halves together, plus the center diff was locked and so under heavy braking, it put a to...
