When the fastest Yokomo available in 1987 was the RPS Losi version from 1985, you can see why they looked at the Optima that had been winning everywhere at the time.

Re: Cliff Lett 'prototype 4wd RC10 'picture - early 1987
The Trinity and Hot Trick chassis for the Optima were flat plates like that Associated car. A lot of conversions for the re-release Optima change it to a flat plate chassis. The photo of Cliff Lett holding the two cars shows it has the Optima front bumper brace, the underside view shows it has a com...

Re: Traxxas sending cease and desist letters to aftermarket companies then backing off.
This topic reminded me of when Tamiya went after people for reproductions: https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=23744 The Tamiya problem was more due to the fact the sticker sets and manuals had other manufacturers logos all over them, and was more to do with Tamiya not wanting to get s...

Re: Traxxas sending cease and desist letters to aftermarket companies then backing off.
It's pretty clear how they want their brand and Logo used actually and makes sense. RPM can absolutely make aftermarket parts for Traxxas products. RPM can't use the Traxxas logos on their packaging. It has to be clear that it is a product made by RPM and is not made by Traxxas. No one was using Tr...

That's pretty impressive to put together from spares.
I must admit I got mine direct from Mantua Models, they have been selling old stock on Facebook.

Craig Dreschers 91 Worlds Stealth car
At the IconicRC Revival weekend I got to hold Craigs Detroit 91 Stealth car that he still has, he is looking on restoring it. While I had it I took some photos of it that you might enjoy. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AL9nZEVnfLMZk5zD6aK3Tf5KoDJiKTRih2gqywi30gai0nk7rXWOdUBzvdXmMvJOuPdmxQUWqfK...

Re: New Bodies Released
The usual problem with repro bodies. To make a body fit a chassis the pattern has to be made slightly bigger to compensate for the body shrinking as the plastic cools after it has been formed. So the original body is already undersize compared to the pattern. To reproduce a body almost always a patt...

Re: Technology "Firsts" in the RC industry (with pictures)
Ball differential technology: ... I'm unsure which RC car was the first to offer this technology. This was pretty revolutionary at the time I imagine. Nice posts by the way! Cecil Schumacher invented the ball diff to replace the fixed axle in his son Robin's Mardave 1/12 car. He sold the ball diffe...

Re: Optima Mid RERE
For what it's worth, my body, wheels and bumper arrived from Kyosho yesterday. Seems odd to be able to buy parts before the car is actually being shipped. Everything about this is just plain weird! Right. That's another thing that seems bass ackwards and just plain screwed up regarding this re-re d...

Re: Optima Mid RERE
I wonder if Kyosho is planning on releasing any of the long wheel base mid's? I pointed out that the body/undertray mounts for the lwb cars were moulded into one of the sprues, and pointed out that this was a big indication that a lwb Mid must be in the works. As this got a positive response from A...

Re: Turbo Optima re-re - how sturdy is the transmission?
Well the transmission is basically the same as a modern buggy, with differentials from Kyoshos modern buggies and a belt drive similar to modern cars. 3300kv is about equivalent to a 13.5T motor these days. It can easily handle that, in fact I use a faster 10.5T motor in my original vintage race Opt...

Re: 2.2 wheels on Ultima rere
I'll be trying to fit up 2.2's on a re-release ultima I picked up today at lunch. I have a set of wheels from a Tamiya sand viper that will work. I think trf201 front wheels would work also just hard to find. I was thinking the 4x8x3 flange bearings would work but then I see the JC wheels I ordered...
