Re: Tamiya Polycarbonate Metallic Paint - Backing colors

It may not have come out quite the colour you wanted but its very pretty . Good choice on the bright silver backing . Appreciate that, thanks Daddio ! Car is looking good. Might not be the Nassau blue you intended, but it's just about bang on for Admiral blue. Very pretty as is. 👍 Depending on how ...

Re: Tamiya Polycarbonate Metallic Paint - Backing colors

The blade on the cutter for these HPI decals must've been really dull. I would start pulling the decal off the sheet, and it would bind and tear. Had to use the Tamiya Decal Scissors to cut a lot of these, that's what took so long, and I'm still not done. https://i.imgur.com/yaP0uTj.jpg The hood dec...

Re: Tamiya Polycarbonate Metallic Paint - Backing colors

I haven't painted anything in 20+ years, and I was never good at painting these, ever. I wanted to drive them, and the body was usually just there to protect my chassis when jumping ravines, or playing tag with them. We had no tracks, no where to race these, and were basher's before the term existed...

Re: Tamiya Polycarbonate Metallic Paint - Backing colors

I was too impatient and pulled the tape before it dried, no black as a result, and two silver tests. https://i.imgur.com/YKqa7lQ.jpg Chrome paint pen vs Tamiya X-11 for lexan aluminum chrome testing, next to Blue test. https://i.imgur.com/gu57XdC.jpg Looks like Bright Silver is the way to go, in ord...

Re: Tamiya Polycarbonate Metallic Paint - Backing colors

If this one doesn't work out, there are two Kyosho Nostalgic bodies listed on eBay right now. Both are the full kits with chrome bumpers and side pipes. Love the Kyosho Nostalgic Series, but seriously no fan of the color red on a Corvette, or any car for that matter (no offense intended), the only ...

Re: The RC Corvette in - (1988) The Dead Pool - Clint Eastwood

Spaz Stix Mirror Chrome does look good! I'll have to give that a try at some point, thanks! Got my Tamiya Paint Retarder today, hoping to try it out on the window frames tomorrow. Got some kydex sheets too. https://i.imgur.com/vJ6Xwiw.jpg Anyone have an idea how they got the kydex to stick to the mi...

Re: The RC Corvette in - (1988) The Dead Pool - Clint Eastwood

The chrome pens look really good on the surface in person, very shiny and convincing. I used two different brush sizes next to the pen, with the Tamiya X-11 acrylic. The dots in the middle are X-11. https://i.imgur.com/AqBkdMI.jpg https://i.imgur.com/sjsrks0.jpg I'm trying to avoid brush strokes, an...

Re: The RC Corvette in - (1988) The Dead Pool - Clint Eastwood

I looked for that '85 C4 vette, 1/8 scale, already too. The stuff on the table looks like the movie crew went to Toy's 'R Us during the filming, and just bought at that time, what they thought Harlan Rook would've experimented with along the way; but inexpensively as those toys were not hobby ...

Re: The RC Corvette in - (1988) The Dead Pool - Clint Eastwood

Confirmed, these pens are for the outside of plastic, not for painting inside lexan. Pretty realistic effect on the outside. https://i.imgur.com/mvE0Vep.jpg Inside of lexan might as well be gray paint with this pen though. https://i.imgur.com/UmMYwMh.jpg Already have a brush and some Tamiya X-11 chr...

Re: The RC Corvette in - (1988) The Dead Pool - Clint Eastwood

These pens aren't going to cut it, I believe this pen is for painting the outside of models, the inside of lexan just looks bad.

I'll let it dry overnight and see. It wipes off with alcohol too easily.

Re: The RC Corvette in - (1988) The Dead Pool - Clint Eastwood

Maybe a dab of white behind the chrome paint to keep the black from darkening it. The black probably should have been done before the chrome. The chrome is opaque, but the black behind it should make it appear solid aluminum without the light bleeding through. I'll know soon enough. https://i.imgur...

https://i.imgur.com/zioPWDr.jpg I think I found out why Rook only briefly used this model as an early prototype. BCInzmW4XVQ It's much louder in person . Got the Tamiya black today too. Going to keep going on the chrome tonight. Might need to use a silver spray for the grill instead of a pen.
