Pretty sure that truck is a Holden Ute. The Pontiac G8 is based on that chassis (thanks Australia!) and Pontiac even threw around the idea to bring a similar vehicle to the US.

The balancer makes sure that neither of the cells is charging more than the other. If you overcharge a lipo cell it's much worse than an old nicad.
