Re: CAT XL
It is actually the other way round as the spur gear ball and plate is the main differential and the trust bearing assembly sits under the main belt on the top shaft. I believe the next model which was the Procat had the more conventional drivetrain which addressed alot of the earlier issues.

Re: CAT XL
Good job on the clean up and yes by LHS I mean local hobby store. The problem with modern self tappers screws are they use a Phillips style head as oppose to the ones used on the old CATS.

Re: CAT XL
As for the screws used on the CAT, I found the best place to get replacements were in the rc plane section of the LHS. If you are looking for 48dp spur gears I believe Robinson make some direct replacement.

Re: CAT XL
The original CATS have their differential on the spur gear very much like the RC10 but uses belts as opposed to idler gears to connect the drive to the 'Drum'. The 'Drum' or integrator looks very much like a differential but its purpose was to control the drive split to the front end. This drive tra...

Re: My first CAT
Depending on the angle of the pics early CATS are kinda deceiving but I am pretty sure that is an XLS and not a SWB CAT. The Saddle pack chassis would not be an option for the SWB car as nothing else would fit in the car (especially the size of electronics back then). A couple of other dead giveaway...

Re: Procat Refurb No.1
If I may chime in......you can fabricate the anti roll bar out of piano wire and with the soldering part, use a pair of pliers to hold the ball joint with the 'flat' part upright (use rubber bands on the grips). Heat the ball joint with a soldering iron and melt some solder onto the flat part. Next ...

Re: Project 'BURNS' ELECTRIC!!!
Thought I only had the one on the car earlier but I have actually found a slightly used one!!As for the front brake, I wont have need for it but could use an original bumper. Would you be prepared to trade me?

Re: Project 'BURNS' ELECTRIC!!!
Great project JM :D I know you had one of these before but perhaps I can chime in and assist. In regard to the tyres, the wider rears are hard to get these days (so too the front for that matter) so I would recommend getting a set of MP5 or Inferno rims (as they have the same fitment on the drive he...

Re: J.M's Cougar2 'WORKS' & 'TEAM' cars
Hi guys,
I am no expert on the Cougar2 but check out Minichamps version in Tamiya club (very clear picture of the front end) they look like the newer grey versions but appear black.
Hope this helps...cheers!

Re: CAT SWB vs LWB
I believe yours is an XLS (based on widening spacers) as the XL is like the SWB with a longer chassis. Nothing wrong with leaving it as an XLS, have fun restoring it and so much easier locating parts than a SWB CAT.
