1985's Fastest
While doing some research for the RPS Yokomo SE I just bought, I came across this article in the Dec 1999 issue of RC Car Action. Some interesting text, but the RC10 pics are all wrong; just a stock RC10 replica, not Halsey's actual car. Enjoy. Robert 1985's-Fastest-RCCA-Dec-1999-01.jpg 1985's-Faste...

Re: Racer? Modeler? Collector? Hoarder?
I really enjoy building and working on the cars, but I guess I'm mostly a racer; not in the sense that I race competitively at tracks, but that I run (but don't abuse) ALL of my cars on a regular basis (and my kids will get to run them too). I don't have any shelf queens. Because I run my cars, I'm ...

Re: Anyone here get this?
Nice Yoke! I don't really go for them myself but.... Anyway you have a Hot Trick rear roll bar, CRP lengthened mono shock grp plates, a wonder dogfighter body and nice You G tires. Race prepped. BTW if you are missing the front dog bones, RC10 ones are the same size... Final thing, are yo...

"Not to bust your bubble Mark, but that's a Team Car box... note the lack of a gold chassis and the fact that it says TEAM CAR across the top."
I didn't notice that either; the boxes are quite similar!
"ROH73, nice score!" Thanks!

Re: Anyone here get this?
"It just doesn't look like a race developed car unlike the RC10, what other 4wd was it competing against :?: " As far as I know, the early Kyosho 4wd's like the Progress & Gallop, plus the Hotshot; cars like that. It may not look like a race bread car today, but in 1985/86, it was way ...

Re: Anyone here get this?
In Southeastern PA, where I grew up, the RPS SE was the the 4wd drive car to have until the Optima came out. At that point, the much better part support from Kyosho (at least at the LHSs in my hometown) and the Optima's very rugged design, with long suspension travel, etc. won out. That was in 1986....

Re: Anyone here get this?
I received the package today and below are the pics of the contents. Looks like an RPS SE to me, with possibly a Wonder Dog Fighter body. Note the broken front suspension and missing from dogbones. The upper chain guide and battery tray are also missing; I think it was raced with a split pack, as th...

Re: Anyone here get this?
Thanks everyone. Considering the super-small picture, it's definitely a gamble. If it turns out to be junk, oh well...I'll sell off the parts and try to recoup.

I don't see a Grizzly in there! Man, what a disappointing purchase that was... It sure was. I got mine Christmas of '87. What a POS. My father actually called the president of Varicom (I have no idea how he got the number; he's good with stuff like that :D ) and complained so much they ...
