Re: question on rc10 plastic
If the threads are mildly stripped, I've had success with putting a few drops of CA in the hole and spreading it around with a toothpick. Wait until it fully dries before putting the screw back in.

Re: Early Tamiya Wheels and Acetone
Acetone is fine for nylon wheels like all of the RC10s, but you'll always get the same gooey result as Mr. Lexan with older Tamiya wheels, which are mostly polystyrene and some ABS.
I've also found that boiling works well for Tamiya wheels.

Re: White parts whiter. here something that works
Could well be. I'm not sure what kind of plastic Tuff wheels or plastic seats are made of. I looked on their website and it says a "nylon composite," so it's some grade of nylon + something(s). Whatever the something is must respond better to light than pure nylon does. It also talks abou...

Re: White parts whiter. here something that works
A bmx friend of mine said to leave anything white out in the sun, followed by a light scrub with some water and maybe some mild soap. It works for making old yellowed Tuff wheels and plastic seats white again, it should work for RC car parts. It does wonders for bones. I haven't tried it myself yet...

Re: White parts whiter. here something that works
Will any of the common household cleaning agents do any significant harm to the white parts. I've been using a couple mild detergents/cleaners and a brush and haven't had the best of luck yet. Does the alcohol affect the plastic? Standard household cleaning agents, including isopropyl (rubbing) alc...

Re: Differentiating the optimas
my 2 cents: go for 2wd. The chain or belt running through the same case as the gears in the rear is just asking for trouble. While it was acceptable in its high days to have to replace gears regularly, it's definitely something you rather avoid nowadays. True; modern 4wd drive cars are much differe...

Re: Differentiating the optimas
I'm no Optima expert, but I do have three Turbo Optimas and have restored and subsequently sold an original Optima. I really like that original rear motor design and its variations. The mid lineage was much more refined and evolutionary, but the original design just works for me. The Optima House si...

Great stuff; thanks! I always wanted to do that, but never took the time.
Yes, the o-rings are the shock seals. I've been using my pk of 100 for about 15 years now .

Re: Chassis weight comparison
The World's chassis main claim to fame is its hard anodizing, which makes it stiffer. Hard anodizing increases abrasion resistance and makes the surface harder , it doesn't make the aluminum stiffer . The hard anodizing would be less likely to get scratched up and gnarly than the gold anodizing. Th...

Re: Chassis weight comparison
Nice post. Just goes to show what little the BS "milling" really did for the weight. Obviously just something to claim on the latest and greatest version. I imagine the black one is lighter because lighter/thinner/cheaper aluminum was used. Corporations have a way of cutting costs in ways...

Re: BLEACH
Almost all of the original gold pan RC10 white parts are straight Nylon 6/6. My chemical compatibility chart shows that chlorine (bleach) is not recommended for use with Nylon. It shouldn't hurt for a short time, maybe less than an hour, but I would definitely dilute the mixture; don't use straight ...
