Cool; I'm glad it's making the rounds. Did your friend participate?
I see you're in Pennsburg. I'm originally from Allentown, but have been in State College for 10 years now. I'm a PSU grad too.
Regards,
Robert

Re: Cold fun yesterday, 5 Dec 2009
Yeah, the cold water was a little tough on the boys; they didn't come out of hiding for a couple of hours afterward!

Re: so what is your favorite rc car?
1. RC10 - for lots of obvious reasons 2. Turbo Optima - my first "high performance" RC car; best with a belt conversion 3. Rocky - IMO one of the most underrated cars of the 80s - fast out of the box, easily upgradable and that chain sounds fantastic! :D 4. Hornet - my first hobby grade RC...

Re: Cold fun yesterday, 5 Dec 2009
It's really not as bad as it sounds...or looks. There's a couple of seconds of shock (including a WTF am I doing? thought) and then your skin becomes so numb, you don't even feel the cold after that. I can't wait to do it again next year and I hope it's colder .

Cold fun yesterday, 5 Dec 2009
Every December, the local YMCAs hold a "Strong Kids" fundraiser that involves a polar bear plunge in Bald Eagle State Park. My company is a sponsor and several employees plunge each year. This year, I took part. Air temperature was about 32 F and the water was about 42 F (we've had a warm ...

Re: Mirage S.S. body?
I think you need to design an optional scoop kit for your RCPS bodies .

Later in its production run, the Mirage SS was also available with a scoop.

Re: Teambluegroove's repro bodies - quality?
If it's PETG, it's the worst grade ever. While building my vacuum former, I did many of my experimental pulls (from a Viper mold) with .030 PETG and did some rather violent testing with a ballpeen hammer on several of them. I also did this with my .030 polycarbonate experimental pulls. In my experie...

Re: Teambluegroove's repro bodies - quality?
Clear beverage bottles are made from PET or PETG; both are less brittle and more flexible than polycarbonate. PET and PETG are not as good optically, however. My guess is that Teambluegroove is simply using the absolute cheapest grade of polycarbonate out there. Other possibilities are clear polysty...

Re: Original inspiration for the Clodbuster?
Except for the section behind the cab, the Terminator truck looks a lot like the Clodbuster, so it could be. This website makes the case for the original Sampson: http://www.tamiyabase.com/1to1scale/realcars.htm. I definitely think Rolling Thunder was the inspiration for the Lunchbox; Tamiya should ...

Re: Kyosho Icarus
A friend had one when I was a kid. It was very durable and handled fairly well, definitely better than my Hornet. The front suspension on the Icarus (and similar cars like the Cox Bandido and Kyosho Pegasus) is probably the worst feature; there are no hinge pins, just flexible plastic. IMO, a Raider...

Re: Anybody here into tether racers
My father still has his tether car from when he was a kid; it's from around 1950. Very cool. I restored it for him about 15 years ago. It's a Cox Thimble Drome midget. I'll have to take some pics sometime.
