cobrakai's RC10GT brushless conversion

I have shared some photos of this in another thread years ago, but since then I've done more work to it. This is my RC10GT blue chassis I bought new like 20 years ago. I converted it to a mid-motor, transverse battery electric https://i.imgur.com/Iligzsw.jpg The motor bolts to a 1-piece transmission...

Re: Solid epoxy diff. Do you really need a working diff?

Honestly I feel that a locked diff is probably better than a ball diff :) Though I know most here won't agree with me. I had so many issues with my ball diffs and they can only take so much power before they start slipping since the entire function of it is built on friction of hardened materials sl...

Re: What's the latest slipper upgrade route?

After looking at the Triad slipper some more...

The gear is 48 pitch. The GT came with 32 pitch gears. I am currently running a 21/60 combo. The equivalent size 48-pitch spur is 90T and I'd have to change my pinion to a 32T to mesh.

Re: What's the latest slipper upgrade route?

My GT is the RTR model from circa 2001. The clutch looks like this. Never been a big fan of it. I'd like a beefier clutch that I can have the spring more like 50% compressed so I have adjustment range. https://thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images1/1/0113/25/team-associated-rc10gt-complete_1_5c9cd453ce3...

What's the latest slipper upgrade route?

My RC10GT brushless conversion still has the original slipper. The spur gear is kind of "wobbly" as the assembly doesn't sit perfectly against the split pin, and the clutch is a very narrow thin ring around the perimeter of the clutch pad with very little adjustment range. It's almost full...

Re: Upgraded from ball diff to gear diff finally!

Nice! U need to start doing videos on youtube like johnnyq90 Definitely thought about it, but when it comes time to do stuff I just want to get it done and not worry about camera position, lighting, etc. It can easily double the time it takes to do things. Maybe I will try it next time :) Whenever ...

Yeah! It wasn't too bad and you can see I didn't put any effort into weight savings haha.

Upgraded from ball diff to gear diff finally!

I posted a couple years ago about having some issues with my RC10GT that I converted to brushless. It just would not put the power down. I drive mostly on the street just fooling around and that ball diff would inevitably chirp and get gritty after a couple hours and require a rebuild. So I just dec...

Re: I need help to get a little more speed on my RC10T4.3

The castle creations mamba X 3800kV motor I have in my GT is pretty nuts. I run it with both 2S and 3S. On 2S it's pretty mellow, geared 21/66 (paired to 2.6 transmission). Still gobs of acceleration and tops out around 40 something. Then when I want to have some fun, I throw the 3S in there. The mo...

Re: Replace RC10GT ball diff with gear diff?

Well guys, I've run about 20-30 more packs (2S and 3S mixed) through the car. I seem to finally have settled on a solution. I had to rebuild the diff about 3 more times (including sanding the diff rings and thrust rings), and it would keep getting crunchy after a very short time. In order to keep it...

Re: Replace RC10GT ball diff with gear diff?

One more observation.

When i rebuilt it last time I sanded the diff rings with 600 grit on both sides. Now I noticed the back side (against the outdrive) was shiny and polished, and there was a groove in the diff ring. Looks like it was slipping on that surface. Anyone heard of that?

Re: Replace RC10GT ball diff with gear diff?

Can you point me in the direction of the clutch parts I will need? Doesn't have to be new necessarily... trying not to break the bank too much more on this guy! My friend actually has a torque converter clutch on his stadium truck. It's made by Losi. Really neat little unit, fits right on the output...

Re: Replace RC10GT ball diff with gear diff?

So, maybe I'm misunderstanding something fundamental. It looks like you guys are recommending both slipper clutch and differential adjustments. It sounds like a proper setup has the slipper clutch slipping first, then the tires, then the differential (hopefully never). Is this right? So if I lock do...
