Depending on how far off you were with the mesh, you might want to even get the next size up.

I'd pick up a larger 48p spur (maybe a pinion or two) and run the 20T pinion. Shouldn't be too hard to find an 87T spur. I don't the tranny so I can't talk to it limiting motor pinion fit to the spur. That pinion/spur would work find in a brushless system too. I run a much smaller pinion in my brush...

IMO ... With a brushed motor, that pinion seems a bit large... they don't have the torque of the brushless so you'd run smaller pinions to get the torque as the loss of some top-end speed. I wouldn't try to rit dye kydex. Usually rit is used with hot or boiling water. I do have a good donor chassis that has a straight tail but is otherwise hacked and scuffed to be otherwise useless.

One trick you can try to darken steel dogones... Clean the steel bones up real good. Heat them up in the oven to like 450 for awhile... then quench them in dirty motor oil. Gives them a decent black finish. And being "oiled" like that helps prevent rust in the short term. You can quench in...
