Re: Getting back into RC, When did everything become RTR?

Man, I didn't think this post would blow up like this. Don't get me wrong, I understand the appeal for RTR. I was fortunate enough to have uncles who raced/played with them and a father who showed me how to turn wrenches as a kid. My brother-in-law on the other hand can't use a screwdriver but my ne...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

I believe the B2 idler does not fit. you should not need grease in the stealth if you are running stock gears, just the clear in the diff, black on the thrust. if you are finding that there is a bind every rotation, I would think it's the top gear, mark the shaft with a sharpie and see if the rough...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

So i finally got all the parts I need for the rebuild minus the receiver and ESC. I started rebuilding the stealth last night with the B4 slipper and noticed something weird. If i place just the top shaft and the idler into the housing and close up both halves, it appears to bind every 360 degrees. ...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

Well with all the snow we're getting here in the northeast I decided it was a good day to get as much done on the buggy as I could. Got almost all of the front end in except for the one axle as that snapped when removing the wheel originally so I have to order some new axles. The rear would have bee...

Re: Getting back into RC, When did everything become RTR?

Yeah, it seems that the guys at the one shop I went to praised Traxxas because "they kept everything the same" while associated etc kept changing things up. I'm not sure if I agree with that or not. I would always expect things to change as the technology advances. Does it suck that you ca...

Getting back into RC, When did everything become RTR?

So I've started to get back into RC with rebuilding my RC10 Black Stealth CE and decided to look at what's available at my local hobby shops. It seems that everything is RTR/prebuilt now a days. One of my favorite parts of RC was building the car up and getting to know everything about it so if I dr...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

Thanks guys. Yeah I held the stock to the gt parts and its obvious why they wouldn't work lol. Dug through the parts manuals and got a list of everything I need for the tranny. I was able to free the bushings for the output drives but they need some work with a wire brush to clean off some stuff. I ...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

Still waiting on the parts I ordered but I figured I'd start looking into my transmission stuff. Finally got the transmission 99% apart. The bushing from the top shaft is currently rusted onto it so I have the topshaft soaking in some PB Blaster to try to pull it off. Since I'm not sure if it will d...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

Stopped by a different local hobby place tonight to see what they happened to have in stock. Once again, they don't carry associated stuff in store. Decided it was time to spend some money and spent $$$ on almost all the parts I need besides a body and transmission stuff. I'm at the point where I'm ...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

So I stopped by the local hobby hut by the rink I coach at after practice today. Asked if they had any Associated parts. Unfortunately they stopped selling associated stuff but he went into the back and came out with a box of all the remaining associated parts they had and told me to go through them...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

So I stripped the chassis at work today so tonight I'll be cleaning up all the gold parts and preparing to start the rebuild. One thing that I'm stumped on is I need to get new steering blocks and axles as one of my axles snapped and the other is pretty corroded that it's just easiest to replace the...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

Try soaking every nut and bolt with WD40 do this for a few days, Patience is the key here, and over time you may get lucky getting it to budge. Unfortunately patience wont work here. The screws holding in the transmission and battery hold down are soo rusted that first attempt to turn them stripped...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

Started more on the teardown. Used some PB Blasted, simple green and hot water and got all of the front suspension off. Trying to get the rear off but the trans mount screws are so rusted they're not budging. I'm likely going to have to drill out the heads and hope I can grab the remaining portion w...

Re: [Project] Restore My Black Stealth RC10CE Destroyed by S

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. The Losis were beat up beyond repair from when I played with them in my backyard. If I remember correctly, one was an LXT and one was a JR. I picked up both off eBay in pretty bad condition to begin with so me beating them down then Sandy just finished them. My...
