Re: Optima is back!!
Those should work...never even heard of that brand, though. Thanks for posting that. I've spent hours going through eBay and Googling trying to find decent 2S LiPos that were short enough, and other than the apparently discontinued ones, I found nothing. I bought some of the 4000mah variety and the...

Re: New guy 1985 Optima rebuild Thread.
Me again. Posting for posterity here. So I've run a couple of charges on it now and WOW  Brushless and Lipo is awesome. I think I need a wheelie bar! This thing is stupid fast compared to 30 years ago. :D With the knowledge that the old gearbox wasn't designed for this much power I have...

I liked your idea so much I copied you. Pre-ordered.Grunger73 wrote:You are correct. That is the listed preorder price. Available March 31. I just preordered mineGoMachV wrote:I'm hearing a street price of 299
It looks like the bumper is mounted differently. Hopefully no more bent or snapped front support.

I was looking at this too and noticed there were only 2 screws in the top plate above the servo where there used to be 4.
Yes they definitely fixed the servo mounting.

Re: New guy 1985 Optima rebuild Thread.
Thanks Terry for the dual spring idea. It had crossed my mind but seeing it makes it a little more of a solid idea. So updates. First the 3Racing shocks. After having been gone for 6 days I got home and noticed the oil has been leaking out of the shock bottom seals while I was away. I honestly think...

Re: Optima is back!!
Well this is awesome. Thanks for all the pictures. I noticed in one of the pictures it was assembled and obviously had a chain drive then in another picture it is showing belt diffs. I'm really quite curious to see this in person. Guess I'll have to get one. :D On another note this couldn't be more ...

Re: New guy 1985 Optima rebuild Thread.
Well I'm out of town again for work so no real new updates coming in the next week except for this. I got my machined steering servo mounts back today. I was unhappy with my hand made version and since the resources are available I had these made. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13/Dirtleg/Optima%...

Re: Optima is back!!
I'm hoping they go with a chain. But not the original style chain. I'm thinking it would be great if they
went with the chain from the Kyosho motorcycle. That would be an improvement over the belt as well IMO.

Well this is excellent news. I've been waiting for this to happen. Glad they are actually going to do it.

Re: New guy 1985 Optima rebuild Thread.
Speaking of the chain, have people in the past used a dry lube on say the chain and final pinion gears? Thinking about the different reasons why chains stretch and one is heat. In this case it's probably just mechanical overload but can't hurt to talk about it. After further research it is clear tha...

Re: Caged Optima MkII
I love the caged look on that chassis. Have you made any progress since then?
That is definitely an interesting build. Curious to see how you work out the halfshafts.

That is awesome. You say it goes faster? I bet that's a handful to control at times.
Thanks for the video.

Re: New guy 1985 Optima rebuild Thread.
So yes the shocks arrived today along with the steering servo. I assembled the shocks and here are some of my opinions on the 3Racing shocks for the Tamiya DT-02. Overall they seem nicely made. Everything fit together well and they included a choice of shock pistons. 2 or 3 hole pistons were include...

Re: New guy 1985 Optima rebuild Thread.
While I agree on the wheel size issue these were cheap and available and I just wanted to get something to use in the short term. I will eventually get something in the 1.9-2.0 size for offroad. I probably spent 10 hours looking for a wheel and tire setup in that size that I liked. I found some real...
