Had no idea they reissued the 1977 6-wheeler.
Image

Spotted this for $190 last night, and this fool and his money have parted ways - once again.

Image

Have a Hobbywing 1060 ordered for it, as it definitely doesn't come with the ESC.

I'm going to paint this with TS-15 Blue, and TS-26 Pure white, the unpainted plastic just doesn't look right to me.

Did some reading up on the Tyrrell P34, and apparently there have been two reissues of the original model since 1977, one in 2000, and this most recent one in 2022.
https://tamiyabase.com/tamiya-models/58003-58003

They made the Monaco and Japan reissues with the F103-six chassis also, but those kits came with the lexan bodies, and not the ABS hard shell.
https://tamiyabase.com/?option=com_joodb&view=article&joobase=21&id=256&Itemid=1063#models-with-f103-six-chassis

My kit should be here on Monday. Really looking forward to the challenge of the body on this one, it will be the toughest paint job I've attempted yet. Working my way up to a Sand Scorcher boxart afterwards.

Lovely car ! Brings back memories for me, I went to church with Adam and Clair Tyrrell , niece and nephew of Ken Tyrrell who owned the team . I visited their factory a couple of times , sat in the cars , looking back it was all a very primitive and fairly small factory, more a set of workshops , I guess all teams were like that then , I still remember being allowed to lift one of the wheels , how a sticky the rubber was and I was probably only 9 or 10 .
Just great memories .
Sorry to derail the thread .

That is very cool, being that close to the real thing!

I like how the Tamiya model gives you the choice of driver too.

Got the P34 kit and a Hobbywing 1060 ESC yesterday, went with the FastEddy bearings for this too.

Glad the decals are the same for this RI, as they were in '77.

The front four.

The above was about an hours worth of work last night. This chassis shouldn't take long to complete.

Hate to say I was too young to really remember who's cars were there , there was no car collection there only the current car , id have to have been 8-10 years old and I'm 54 now so between 1978 -1980 ish .

Actually just had a surf and it was the Turrell 008 for sure as it was blue and white livery and not a 6 wheeler so 78 .

As basic as this kit may seem, the RI with the new fiberglass chassis is really nice.

Getting to the hard parts soon.

Are you doing box art (1977) or the blue/yellow scheme from 76?

Edit: n/m, I saw this posted above "I'm going to paint this with TS-15 Blue, and TS-26 Pure white".

This will be the first RC hard shell body I've painted, I really want it to look exactly like the boxart, but I'm not sure if my skills match my ambition, I'm going to try my hardest either way.

Thanks for linking that video. That is a top notch build video.
That also looks like a great kit. I look forward to seeing you post up your build.

Thanks@JosephS! That video is great, I learned a lot from that. The tire tape can be confusing in the directions, if you've never seen it done before.
Image

Got one side of the tape on all of the rims, I'm going to watch the tire mounting section in that video again, before peeling off the final backing on these, and sticking the tires on.
Image

This feels like a make it or break it moment, have to get it right the first time.

At 18:17 is where the tire tape method is shown.

The ds tape wasn't as sticky or permanent as I thought it would be.
Image

All tires taped, and the FastEddy bearings in the front rims.
Image

Waiting on the front servo, a cheap Amazon 20kg, should be here tomorrow.

Cut off the servo mount ears, and made custom length servo and ESC wires, as my Spektrum SR3000 Rx had the Futaba blade connectors.
Image

Electronics in, and chassis completed.
Image

The HobbyWing 1060 ESC has a really short switch length. Need to cut off that switch, and add the old Futaba style.
Image

The Futaba switch, mounts with the switch side facing the ground, on the provided mount in this pic, just to the right and behind the servo.
Image

A few more adjustments to the electrical and chassis, and then the body is next.
