The unplanned - Gemini SLX freshing up

@LurkingCAT gave me this car for donating to the website a few weeks ago and I've decided to do some work to it recently. Not sure what compelled me to get this car, but it's nearly as old as me. I do intend on driving this car, lightly, at least a few times.

I knew from the start that the original chassis was cracked and was lucky enough to fine a brand new one on ebay while waiting for the car to arrive from over the pond.

I love the Schkee body is such a classic, granted pink isn't really my color, maybe I'll do something with that later but I'll still keep this body around.

The car arrived safely and while the chassis is dead everything else on the car was in decent shape.

Man how long has Robinson been making gears for RC?

The is incredibly simple, I tore it down and cleaned up the parts. I did a light hand polish on the axles and aluminum bits and started to put the parts on the new chassis.

Here's where we're at right now. I don't think the Magnum 480R is period for this but it's the oldest motor I currently have, and man is it cool looking.

The servo horn either the wrong way right now or too damn big, also I want to find some clear/white endlinks for the steering as one of these is broken anyway.

I still need to find better foam for tires. I might need a different spur gear it seems to be at the extents of how far the motor will adjust, I'm not even sure what ratio I should be going with this.

Also need to find some period electronics to toss in it

The white Great Planes ball links are still fairly easy to find.

I'll give those a shot. Thanks!

Thank you again for giving me the opportunity, It's a neat little car!

If anyone has some suggestions for what period correct electronics to put in her I'm all ears. I'm not ultra familiar with this era of cars

I have a NIB here, and I can confirm this is not the original servo horn... I'll take some pics of the servo horn cluster tonight.

A period correct motor electronics might be closed endbell motor, mechanical speed control, and Futaba G plug receiver. Craft servos also. This is just my guess of though based on what I've seen in RC12e cars.

Here is the overdue pic of the servo saver cluster included in the NIB SG Gemini SLX package
Image

Now that being said, it doesn't correspond to the diagram present within the box, and the bumper is not corresponding either... Seems that there is a lot of subtile difference between the chassis and the diagram.

I will need to list them down, later... Maybe this thread shoould be moved to the TAG/SG sub forum by the way, as I had hard time to find it :-)

Finally found a picture of the former servo lay out. Not too good, but you get an idea and you see the large saver mounted...

Didn't think about it when I sent the car, but I actually have a new Coyote saver in black. Same tree as the grey silvertriple posted above. A little donation to RC10talk and I'll send it your way if interested.

Just on the note of the sketch, it is more in line with the Phil Greeno Gemini SLX.
Phil Greeno was racing 1/8 track with PB and switched to SG. I think SG's take over of the Gemini SLX platform corresponds to collaboration with Greeno on 1/8.
Anyway, after SG took over there were smaller changes to the platform - bumper, servo saver, axle, body posts and radioplate.

I actually just recieved a new SG set of the servo saver sprue to my house earlier today. Granted can't do anything with it till i actually get home on the weekend. Going to have to dig through my pile of parts for old servos and find a mech speed control.
