Realizing that I needed more help than I could find online, I searched out a local hobby store for some guidance. The guy took one look at my car and said ‘wow that’s old’. That’s when I knew I was in trouble. He told me that the newer electronics would tear apart the old six gear transmission and tried to sell me a new RTR. I told him I wasn’t interested so, back to the rabbit hole.
First step, tear apart the whole car. I wanted to clean and refurbish everything I could.

I learned about the differences between an Edinger and a Cadillac but I couldn’t find the address on my box.

After a little warm water, some dish soap, a toothbrush and a little elbow grease. Nice and clean!

Your car is a CE, all were Cadillac Ave.

The front suspension and wheels are a dead giveaway, as well as your instruction manual.

That box is in fantastic shape

I don’t have a place to set up and work on the car so this parts case keeps everything organized. I set up everything and work on it at night while watching old sitcom reruns with my wife. She looks at me and smiles as if to say ‘I love you’ or ‘you’re an idiot’. Probably a combination of both.

After the move to Cadillac Ave, everything was produced there through the B3 (maybe B2).

That’s what happens when you’re a packrat. That box spent most of its life inside a trunk in the basement. It’s hard for me to let go things.

I found this carbon fiber look vinyl chassis protector on eBay. From team picco mx. Since the bottom is so scratched up, it’s no big loss.

You can buy repo mci decals and have it look box art again. Make it happen! Nice rebuild.

Thanks! It’s been a lot of fun building so far. I saw the decals from mci and contemplated going the box art route. I have something else in mind-not sure if it will look as good as I think it does in my head but we’ll see. I’m sure you guys will let me know if it’s cool. If it goes south, I can always get another body.

I ordered the stainless steel screws from KNK, titanium hinge pins and turnbuckles from Lundsford racing and started rebuilding. Also, got the carbon fiber front shock tower from Vintage RC. I gotta say, I’m loving the black and gold color combo. I also ordered the RPM ball cups but realized that they are too big and the steering rods hit each other. I ended up ordering the appropriate associated ball cups in black.
I rebuilt the shocks with 30wt oil and used the gold springs that came with the car. Not sure how it will affect the handling because they are stiffer but we’ll see. I was going to use the silver ones again but the’ve been on the car for decades.

I decided at the beginning of the build that I wanted to use a stealth transmission because it can handle the power of the newer electronics. But, I didn’t want to drill out the chassis. I came across a YouTube video for a mid motor conversion for the RC10 and thought that was a great idea. I contacted Brian Conklin and ordered the B1M conversion kit. He was very gracious and answered all my questions. I also found a stealth transmission on eBay.
I had ordered the classic RC10 ball bearing kit from Fast Eddy but quickly realized that it didn’t have the correct bearings for the stealth transmission. I contacted them and was told that I needed the RC10T kit so I ordered that as well. Turns out, I needed both kits.
The T kit had all the correct bearings for the front wheels and the transmission except the bearing for the top shaft. That one, along with the bearings for rest of the car were in the classic kit.
At Brian’s suggestion, I ordered an 81T spur gear and 21T pinion. He also directed me to this forum. Thanks Brian!
