For Info TH-1 Yokomo Adaptors

Post by Synergy »

Im not sure if I’ve missed this somewhere already but for information guys, good news, someone is now producing two versions of the TH-1 adaptors, one standard and one reporting to be replicas of the ones fitted to Masami’s 91 Steath car.

Is it someone we know?

Quick search on eBay and they’ll turn up, appears to be US based.

Hi Mark,

This is a project started by me and a good personal friend. It spawned out of wanting to reproduce items we personally wanted and hone our manufacturing and design skills.

Thanks,
->Mark

Thank you for going to the effort to produce them for the wider community, as you know my order is in :D

I do have a set of originals, however your work means I can now run the same wheels on my backup car too.

Thanks again.

Thanks Jeff, that means a lot! You set the bar high!

Hope the move is going well, super jealous you made the move to Idaho, such a great state. Illinois, is frustrating, at best

Unfortunately we are stuck in communist Portland (outskirts). The wife isn’t nearly as committed to leaving as I am. Sucks, because I saw a lot of places in Idaho that I really liked. Can’t wait to see what our taxes are going to look like this next year.

Oh man, sorry, I thought you made the move out there. I can relate to what you are saying though, I live in the outskirts of Chicago and we suffer the same tax burden. Illinois has had such a history of corruption and waste that it is essentially bankrupt, both financially and morally, but I digress 8)

And now that our kids are stuck at home and I work remotely, my wife and I constantly question why we continue to stay here. Again, I digress, but let me say I do feel your pain, hang in there!

Hi.
How would the offset of these adapters and Yokomo wheels work on a B3 chassis?
I think the rear is very similar geometry but don't know about the front.
They look really well produced.👍

Hi, these adaptors are machined for the 1/4" taper axles on the original RC10, where the B3 has 3/16" axles. If you had a drill press (or a steady hand  you could bore out the 5/32" hole to 3/16" and they would fit. As for offset, I haven't tried it and measured it out.

You are like the 3rd person asking for a 3/16" version of the adaptors though, which to be honest I hadn't considered since I just assumed most folk were like me and wanted to use them on a Steatlh Worlds replica. With JC Racing making repro wheels now though I guess the options for this combo are much greater. If there was enough demand I would consider making a 3/16" version.

Thanks!

Will that work? 1/4 is bigger than 3/16

So the interesting thing is the axle is indeed 1/4" where it engages the roll pin, however it tapers to 5/32" for the remainder of the axle to the 8-32 thread. The majority of surface area on the adaptors is actually at 5/32", not 1/4". So it could be feasible to open the 5/32" hole to 3/16" and try it.

My only concern (for a runner) would be that the roll pin diameter on the 3/16" axles is smaller which might cause premature wear in that area, but since the whole adaptor is captured by the 8-32 nut, it might not make a difference. We'd also have to test and make sure that the adaptor doesn't bottom out on the rear hub carrier. It might be necessary to take some material off the end of the adaptor so it bottoms out on the roll pin, but doesn't rub on the hub carrier.

Makes sense! When I was making these adapters I had quite a few guys ask me for 3/16 version as well.
