Castor block choices

Post by KidAgain »

DS for drag racing only what would you guys run up front 5,10,15,20,25 or 30*, I got some 5’s and it pitches the castor blocks something fierce towards the (correction) FRONT of the car not sure this is what I want?

Any recommendations would be extremely helpful.

Thanks
Jake.

There are no turns in drag racing, so it really does not matter too much what you use. Any steering input you make during a race should be absolutely minimal.

EDIT: If you are interested in how 1:1 scale drag racers setup their cars, then take a look at this: https://www.onallcylinders.com/2015/01/15/steering-straight-inside-story-wheel-alignments/.

Run as much caster as possible to increase straight line stability.

30 degree blocks will give you the most srock caster, at 8 degrees to match the ds noseplate. The 30 degree blocks have no offset. So they will be any angle a kickup would be.

From there, to get any more caster, you would have to flip others left to right and trim the rib off to get the travel you need. With a dragster, it won't need much steering angle anyway.

Run as much caster as you can. You could take your 5's, trim them and flip them, you will end up with 33 degrees negative caster.

Can you show me where to trim, are you talking about the steering stops molded on steering arms or modify the castor block itself?

Positive castor is when the castor blocks are tilted towards the REAR of the car not the front correct?

whoops. yes, i meant positive caster, with the top of the spindle leaning behind the wheel as you move forward.

yes, you have to trim the caster block, the rib and possibly some of the back side. though, as a dragster, you might be OK as is with just a few degrees of steering angle. you likely won't have much suspension travel, so any other trimming might be unnecessary, but can include trimming arms or more of the side of the caster block. also be sure to adjust your steering trim and travel if possible so everything works without binding.

5* castor blocks flipped and modified after a few answered questions this is what we got for mock up

Let’s see how it works out for straight line runs.
