start of my first vintage Losi buggy - Old is New JRX-22
amazingly...I have built several RC10s, but always only ran Losi buggies BITD. I do have my original LXT conversion "monster truck", but havent built up a Losi buggy. I did have a really nice Junior 2, but bought it as a roller, cleaned it up a bit and moved it onto someone who appreciates shelfers (I just must have runners - one of my many flaws)
So surfing Craigslist looking for tires for my 1:1 truck, my impulses overcome me and I stumble upon this ad. Some really good, some really, really bad...
Good:
RPM steering
Complete 5 link (not worn out)
not missing parts
early JRX2 motor plate (no cut out for the camber link)
early rear bulkhead, unmolested
Bad:
Proformance chassis in pretty good shape, hacked servo saver hole
automotive hose clamps as shock clamps
household wire spinners on the speedo wiring
The plan: a runner/racer mix of JRX series cars, with 5 link. Not in a hurry, I will refurbish as much of the original car you see to be re-used. May end up with threaded shocks, definately end up with slipper parts, maybe XX retro tranny (maybe, probably not, I love the LRM).
Updates as I get 'em done. I did tear down the car tonight...yucky dirty & it looks like the servo is epoxied in

Re: start of my first vintage Losi buggy
its a proline toyota (according to the tailgate), not in overall bad shape honestly.
rick, I may be hitting you up for some stuff...i have a million ideas floating in my head, just need to settle down and pick my build path. i know i said 5 link rear, but i am seriously debating the h arms rear end. i dont want to play with spacers & adapters and stuff to get standard rear rims on there and keep a good width.

Re: start of my first vintage Losi buggy
Judging by the pictures, it looks like you have the older style shock mounts (JRX2, JRXT etc). If you're interested in trading your rear shock tower for a JRX-Pro SE, let me know.

Re: start of my first vintage Losi buggy
did a "little" work
tires/wheels are just a mock up, no bearings or any front turnbuckles, the originals are TOAST
Some of the other pieces that I picked up from the same seller (for $10 more)

Re: start of my first vintage Losi buggy
I'm at crossroads. I have all the parts to make the rear end into H arm, but I really want to run the 5 link. At first I was dead set against the long front shocks, but they are growing on me, especially after the mock up. I did put SE swept front arms/LXT carriers knuckles on there.
I do have a slipper tranny I am cleaning up that will be in there also. I am thinking about changing the shock set up, but these just need a rebuild. They have the old single o-ring cartridges, so a full set of new carts is in order. I will pick up some new turnbuckles/ball cups, order some bearings and figure out a body.
Thinking I need a Proformance/Pro body, not the Pro SE. Any ideas (Kyosho Pro X?)
Anyways, got the bulk done today, the little things will take much longer.

Re: start of my first vintage Losi buggy
picked up a full set of turnbuckles and rebuilt the shocks. Played around with the slash front hexes (the grey ones) on the rear end and a set of 22 rear wheels.... let's just say this
Same width as the 22 and no rubbing of the 5 link.
Pics tomorrow. I am designing (in my mind) how to use the 22 front wheels (without using the XXX parts up front), I have ideas, but no way to make them come to life, yet

Joey, Brandon G's repo Pro Bodies are very nice and it would look great withthe stock body on it. they also come with a V wing and gear cover.

Re: start of my first vintage Losi buggy
I always thought the Pro-X body was pretty awesome and that it would look great on an early losi chassis....but I've been afraid of blowing $35 on the repop thats available and it not fitting the chassis correctly.JK Racing wrote:Thinking I need a Proformance/Pro body, not the Pro SE. Re: start of my first vintage Losi buggy
Rick working on the body already , also I put the LXT carriers on there, same thing as the Jammin kit. I may end up with the Pro SE towers front and rear, but for now I am going to attempt the 5 link/stock tower & JRXT/Pro front tower.
